Can I Fire My Commander
Is it possible to get rid of your commander-or do they have to get rid of you?

You have to pick a new one to get rid of the old one. This includes yourself.. so you can make yourself your commander then dismiss yourself if you want the go with no commander.

This is true, you get bonuses for being commanderless or being your own commander.
