as for the day after tomorrow scenario, can you see an animal standing still threw such a storm untill the eye of the storm passes over it?

i know i cant 8)

'The day after Tomorrow' reference was mearly an attempt to show that such weather could be possible naturally, as far as we know its not impossible. It really wasnt meant to be taken literally in that it will happen exactly as described in that film, mearly that such cold weather (cold enough to flash freeze a large animal) is possible by natural means.

Re: are we standing on planet earth or....

ah! my mistake for taking you to literally...

but if we take away an imbalance in the earth itself due to whatever reason be it natural or man inflicted and if we take away a catastrophe such an asteroid impact...what natural phenomena remains that could induce such dire weather?

could volcanoes or earthquakes produce weather of that magnitude??

Re: are we standing on planet earth or....

extreme weather, drop in temperatures globally i accept as common sense tells me i should and there is also much evidence to support it, but, can temps drop THAT much due to a volcanic eruption?

Re: are we standing on planet earth or....

certain volcanoes? yes

if yellowstone or another super volcano errupted, it would send tons of ash into the air, enough to spread around the globe, causing a dramatic deperature drop.

This snowballs as snow and ice begin to form, causing the temp. to drop further, which continues into another ice age[/quote]

Re: are we standing on planet earth or....

until i can find evidence that a volcanic eruption is not capable of causing the temperature to drop enough to flash freeze anything, i'll accept it as a very real possibility :-)

you have any opinions on the old scriptures/legends/myths?
or any opinions on the gigantic bones uncovered??

Quick example. Think back to the drastic temp changes we had in the U.S. right after Mt. St. Helens blew. She covered half the western seaboard with an ash cloud that lowered temps as much as 7 degrees. Not huge change but went away fairly fast.

Now think about a Super Volcano that covers 3/4 or more of the Earth in an Ash Cloud that doesn't go away as fast as this small one did. Add to that an initial blast that likely sent shock/heat waves into the ionosphere/stratosphere. Could have created a massive back draft pulling down super cold air like that movie discussed earlier. Just a theory.

Re: are we standing on planet earth or....

personally, i think the evidence is in favor of their once walking the earth and i find it astounding that there isnt more debate and study to see if the evidence does stand up to HEAVY scrutiny...i could say the same about the ancient accounts of our history.

when you consider that heavier than air travel was once thought of as an impossibility (even after the wright Bros flew it still took a couple months before the papers would report it because people still couldnt believe it), or that troy was merely a lavish tale, until Heinrich Schliemann discovered troy, and the wright brothers proved heavier than air travel was indeed possible, how can we have such rigid and concrete views of the past or the ancient accounts when impossibility means nothing?!?!

Re: are we standing on planet earth or....

What are you actually arguing in favour of, with regards to these ancient tales?

That mankind was genetically altered by aliens? That Sumerians were given technology or help by aliens? That aliens provided the knowledge to build the pyramids?

If so, why would aliens swing by, give us limited help (v. limited really, but enough to reveal their presence) and then fly off into the night? Aren't you underestimating what mankind can learn on its own without the necessity of some kind of exogenous agency?

ie: the evolution of ancient civilisations is all about the centre and periphery - it is no coincidence that the Nile delta and Mesopotamia areas were the cradle of civilisations - when you get agriculture productive enough to support more people than actually work in agriculture, then you can get specialisation - whether it is cultural, intellectual, mercantile or military.....I fail to see where aliens need to make an appearance.....

As for ancient tales - you believe them? Are we all descended from Adam and Eve then? Or Noah? Or the myth that the entire English race is descended from three boat-loads of people who landed in England? Creation myths helped create a shared identity, a sense of cultural belonging - it mattered little what was believed in, so long as it was believed.

As for the proof of giants you posted earlier - one of them says he was 12ft tall and weighed 2 tonnes....placing his BMI at approximately 145....clinical obesity in humans starts at 30....must have been one fat giant  Also convenient he just.....disappeared at some point......

Btw: Can you post something with some intellectual credibility - ie: articles from jstor or the like, rather than random websites that any old person can write any old spiel on. You keep writing about what the "experts" tell us, but then go to quote personal websites as your sources....find me some real experts please ;)

I do so enjoy the 'evidence' in support of giants, its fun to read & see.

Seriously KMA do you not understand that once a hieght of 7/8ft is reached the human skeletal/musculature systems become a hinderance and a vulnerability rather than a help. Its no suprise or wonder that the 'average' sixe of a human is around 6ft you know, nature has learned that much higher doesnt work very well if at all.

As for a skeleton that resembles that of a normal human been 12ft in height?!?! I'd say its a victorian fake, its the kind of thing they would do. At 12ft you would barely be able to support yourself & carry your own weight unless you were superman, its just not biologically possible at least with a skeleton/musculature like that of a human

evidence such as mammoths flash frozen still chewing on whatever was in their mouths as well as tropical vegetation found under the ice in Antarctica, proof enough?

as for the disaster...lets say, a new plague hits all mankind with no chance of a cure and we're all dead within 2 days. all mankind is wiped out leaving all we have built, created and written intact...

how long before it all wastes away to dust?

Facts don't seem to matter to KMA, At least the ones that are not made up of for scifi movies, Delivered by people who actually know what they are taking about.

Re: are we standing on planet earth or....

Depends on the area - the Pyramids only have wind erosion to deal with really....whereas something in a temperate zone will have wind, rain, ice/snow/frost, and also importantly vegetation - trees and bushes taking root and undermining infrastructure. Still, I'd imagine it'd be longer than 250-300 years before any sign of civilisation has gone....probably that long before places are no longer habitable, but to remove any and all traces would take a much longer time.....

Or you could just use SS' answer as a short version of mine

Most of all our great structures are made out of concrete, running with pipes that carry water, heat, and gas.

This, is how long it would take before most of all our great infrastructure would be gone. I'm pretty it was 250 to 300 years. Castles and churches made from slow weathering stone would still remain for a few thousand years. And some of our Satellites would remain in space for a few hundred thousand years. But most cities would only really appear as slabs of Grey amongst the green.

What's happens to nuclear facilities when no one is around to watch Them? aswell as the area surrounding?

what happens to the damns when no one i around to repaire them?
