Missiles

Well, i read a few topics, and saw some of the topic about killing UU. And this idea (already in my head) popped out - see the bottom for more complicated stuff

how about missiles - There would be.... 5 or 6 different types at the least.

A general list of the missiles might be:
Generic warhead: destroys units, damages weapons - cheap (maybe 100 million naquadah)

EMP: Destroy units (slightly less than generic warhead), damage weapons (more so than the generic warhead), and.... hmmmm, maybe they would destroy some of your naquadah - OR they could take out mothership shields instead of doing anything else - reasonably expensive

Naquadah missile - a naquadah enhanced explosive missile, designed for mass destruction. They would maybe destroy 25% of all fighting units, 10% of Untrained units, 35% of target naquadah, and damage mothership shields - most expensive, preferably several (many many) billions of naquadah - might be slightly unbalanced, so this could be a no go

Biological Missile - purely strategical missile, maybe they would.... 30% of untrained units, cut unit production rate 25% (for a short time only tthough, maybe 5 hours or perhaps 6 hours), and kill 5% of infantry units - moderately expensive

Cruise missile - The most basic missile of all, essentially a smaller generic warhead. Destroys maybe 1 or 2% of all fighting units - the MOST innacurate missile, and by far the cheapest. Maybe it would be 25 or 50 million naquadah each, so it'd be cheap. Not that bad when you have 10 or 15... or 30 or 40 -

Interceptor missile - Missile designed solely for shooting down other missiles. It would cost 100, or maybe 200 million naquadah, with maybe a more expensive advanced version which is more accurate. It might not seems that useful when compared to shooting down a 50 million naquadah cruise missile... until you knock down a naquadah missile.


Now, maybe each race could have a specialty (humans would be better with generic, asguard maybe with EMPs, goal'd maybe would be best with the biological missile, considering what the consider non-goal'd to be worth, and the replicators with interceptor missiles) which would make that particular missile cheaper. I don't know exactly how this would tie in with the show though...

However, it would get people to quit whining about the really strong people, you can't completely cut their UP, but you can chop it up, limit their UP production, or munch on their army. You say the top 100 are cheaters and rich people... until they get hit by a thousand naquadah missiles.

so just a little food for though. This idea should be refined a lot further, but as for now, it is good for the conceptual stage :)

thats why i said it could be dropped

and why the defense missiles are cheap. Only if you can get lucky will you be able to hit the enemy

i think they should all be dropped to single digit numbers actually, i just wanted to prove a point by making the differences big. Remember, until you get very large, 25% isn't all the massive of a number, sure its a lot, but only a couple days worth of growth

ok, this is a good idea
But I don't like it :!:
It would make the game far too complex
Newbes would never be able to aford it!
could workout useless withe the inclusion of the Interceptor missile (big players would just bye heeps of these and stay big!)

It'd be alright providing that you dropped the inteceptor missile bit.

Perhaps they could be more about neutralising motherships as well.


edit:

UU and mothership destroying weapons would help resove the inbalance created by players with all attack/defense and a high covert. Most players simply cannot do damage to these players. Its either pointless as there is nothing to damage or a waste as the player has a rediculous defense. If these missiles were less cost effective than a small wave of attacks and sabs they would not change balance the game but might serve as an object of revenge to be used on those who through having either no defense or all defense (and obviously a large covert) cannot be reached.

if u want to damage the higher players, then get more powerful...there should be no cheap/easy way to hit them. work for it

good point, maybe the EMP missiles could be anti-mothership only

what about temporary effects (shut down shields for 2 ticks, or shut down weapons for 3 ticks, and other things such as that)

Realistically the larger a group is the more vunerable they are to low cost, low damage, methods. The effectiveness of terrorism against large established nations is a prime example.

A previous, and later reversed, update attempted to create a situation where a player with a small army gained certain advantages from thier lack of size. Perhaps an idea like missiles could be used achieve this without totally distorting the current game play.

By making the missiles cost inefficient in comparison to attack and sabotage large players would not need them. However by making them fairly unstoppable lower players could save up and strike back at those who farm them.

i'd say that we'd have to limit an amount of total missles you can have.

there are two ways to do this:

1. flat limit on how many missles you can have, for examples sake, 50.

2. Incrementally upgradable missle capacity. you pay to upgrade your missle silo's. IE, 100 mil naq, to add 5 silo's to your capacity with an increase in cost per silo additions(citing the additional costs to upkeep, and maintain that many silo's.)

i favor the first way, because then the top players don't build up their missle capacity to the 100's or even 1,000's and only buy counter missles. to that limit.

I can tell you right away that I would hate such an idea to be implemented, I'm now ranked in the 50th's thanks to hard work and determination + I have ascended once, I started playing in the end of february, beggining of march(not sure) and I have finally started to get some real power in-game.. I have paid twice and only twice for something in-game, the first time for SS, the second I gave a friend SS as a present( 20$ is a lot in norway). So don't say that there are only rich people and cheaters in the top 100's... That's just too shallow and narrowminded..

there could be a modifier on the missiles

or you just couldn't launch missiles at guys who are X% your size
