It's the system that is still in place, Mordack, and is a great system.
Ya'll acting like you know what monster is
Me have 25 years in the monster biz
All monsters think you can fuss with this
Well you can talk to me Snuffleupagus
Me sneak into your house, me leave before dawn
Your daughters will be pregnant and your cookies will be gone

Perhaps a combination of the two 'systems' is in order

Re: Should We Get Custom Forum Titles After 600 posts?
as you might have noticed, not even close to all the high-post-count spammers have titles... if it had been merely post count based, then a lot more of them would have titles...

Re: Should We Get Custom Forum Titles After 600 posts?
true jack.. but they usually do. I mean if anyone here can tell me one person with a post count over 10k that does not have a personal title I shall be surprised. In fact show me a forum poster with 10,000+ post's that most of the forum users does not know and has not had some form of social impact and I will be very impressed.
Even the likes of newbies such as Super Saiyan who have worked hard for a high post count have not escaped the public eye.
Furthermore.. a misc mod who does not have a personal title. I do believe even Syco a mod we rarely ever hear or see from has a personal title.
If you want a different system all together.. then I suggest have three required categories for a personal title.
Category 1 - Impact: If a player has achieved four or more community awards in a year, have hosted the awards or they have gained entry to the hall of fame they have achieved the first category. ONE of these awards MUST be in either the role playing or forum posting categories as they are obviously paramount to your positions. (This last point should probably be up for debate...).
(considering the highest award count this year to my knowledge was five, going to tokko four seems like a reasonable mark. Then I personally consider actually hosting he awards to be a higher honour than the hall of fame ((It is pretty much going into it anyway..), and the hall of fame being a somewhat coveted thing.. then these two things should equally qualify).
Category 2 - Commitment: If a player has achieved over five thousand post's, spam or otherwise AND their 'most posted in section' is either the GC or SGW general then they achieve the second category.
(Posting is key to being recognised. Where as if you made it 10k post's with no required area of post then one could simply spam their way to the post limit. However.. achieving 5k post's with the GC or the General section as your most posted area will not only mean that it's highly likely most of your post's are not spam, but also that you are very recognised by the community as a whole).
Category 3 - Administrative Pass: Ultimately it falls down to the forum admins to make the call on whether you are or are not allowed a personal title.
(This prestige/favour can be gained by your general attitude and forum presence. If we trust these guys to run the forums then we should trust them to make a good call on who does or does not deserve a personal title, especially after the last two. Obviously if someone constantly post's as an ass.. the admins are not going to want to reward them for it. So the judgement is imperative).

*Whistles*
So...
I'm not getting one soon, cause hall of fame is all about "popularity". So a guy from DDE that has done as good or worse then someone from a no name alliance, would ultimately get into the hall of fame because he has more votes behind him.
+
Post Count of over 10k
Thats a lot

Just be cool, dont be an ass, post when its relevant, admit when your wrong, stand up when you're right, use grammar we can understand (Please dont spam instead of plz dnt spam.), gain a bit of a reputation, visit regularily, dont argue constantly with mods/admins (looks at Tetris [you know I wub you]) and be yourself! tis what I did, then asked for one

All the awards are about popularity and which alliance/empire can get the most members to vote for their member in any given category.
At the same time though even alliances such as DDE and Mayhem who do make/'encourage' their members to vote for their own, even the ones that don't truly deserve it *cough* Orpheus *cough*...sorry had someone else's delusions of grandeur stuck in my throat... anyway continuing.. even these guys don't just vote anyone into it.
and I suggested over 5k post's, most of them in SGW general or the GC.. as this way you're very likely to been recognised enough to deserve one. I have been around now for nearly four years posting on these forums and I have not broken the 5k mark - yet.

Re: Should We Get Custom Forum Titles After 600 posts?
a tiny suggestion there semper... rather than limit it to majority in general section, have it on majority in general, For admin, other game sections, or race sections... the obstructive spam types that flood spam are not used in those sections...
having it on general section only would be VERY limiting...

actually, thats true... when post count is above a certain number, its no longer displayed on profile which section is most used...

Disagree, and I resent the implications.
Race forums are a festering hive of spam. They have fallen on hard times.
The music/games/TV/sports sections are closer-ly moderated as the majority of the race forums.
Alliance Announcements and Recruitment are closely moderated and subject to actual self-moderation.
Also, adding For Admin will result in stupid-ass comments on each and every "banned" thread.. you don't want that, I can imagine.
*picks teeth with chicken bone*
Yah, I'm done now.
