remakes (films), do they EVER live up to the originals?

with the exception of John Carpenters The Thing, and Peter Jackson's King Kong (both of those films are as good as the originals in their own right and the only critique i have of the PJ's kong is Jack Black was cast in the film ), i cant remember a remake ever living up to an original (let alone surpass it), but i'm sure someone will point a few films out apart from the 2 above 8)

one of the worst remakes (yes, even worse than the 70's Kong remake) has to be the resent The Day the Earth Stood Still, the original of that film is FAR superior to the remake it boggles the mind a company would waste so many millions on something so bad and with such a corny and politically correct message such as...people are bad!

i'm rambling lol,

anyways, can a remake ever be as good as an original...what say thee?

It depends on many things like the writing, the actors.

"Little Shop of Horrors" - although that was more of 'reimagining' than a remake.

Worst ever: The Wickerman

at the end of the day, they are remakes, if they were not intended to be remakes then they should have different names and characters in them...

Anways, if we must talk about horrible remakes...

There is no one in piticular movie, but a producer.

Tim Burton

This man must be shot and killed for the films and crap he makes. People actually spend money to watch his peice of **Filtered** films! To me, none of his movies can even be categorized in the area of being considered "good", but of low quallity, mass production money stealers.

I dunno, I think his remakes are fairly dire (Chocolate Factory, Planet of the Apes), but I do enjoy some of the original films which he makes (Big Fish, Nightmare Before Christmas). He ought to stick to what he's best at, which is being quirky and creepy. His 'rehashes' aren't worth bothering with.

I'm kind of looking forward to his alice in wonderland movie. its closer to his genre anyway. and its also not a remake.

Remakes... depends on the movie. Some are crap, some are awesome.

i'd have to agree with that, especially the last bit. they can be awesome, trouble is, most of the time they try to outdo the originals and end up making a mess of things instead of trying to do the originals justice.

Nothing beats the good old black and white cinematic classics, it may be good, but it can never replace it.

thats a 100% purely opinionated answer

So what does it go to do with any matter? Classics are classics. No matter what. Irreplaceable. It is like collecting old records, timeless, and stylish.
