adding some balance.

i've made a big deal about America and the legality issues surrounding Obama's Presidency so its only fair i make a discussion regarding the legality of brown and his right to be PM of the UK...

personally, i dont think brown has ANY right to be PM. just because TB stepped down from office that doesn't give Brown any special privilege.
i think when a PM (or Prez) is forced out of office then there should be a vote of confidence for anyone stepping into the leadership, if a vote of no confidence comes back from the people, then an automatic general election should take place WITHIN 6 months of the change in leadership.

bottomline, i do not recognize Brown as leader :-)

Re: adding some balance.

Yeah i agree with you there, Bertie Ahern steps down and we're stung with Brian Cowen running our country. A vote of confidence from the people should be done after every change in leadership of a country. Unfortunately its not and Brown and Cowens leadership is legal :( :(

Since your introduction leads solely to this, I'll reply to that:

how is that treason? some would say its patriotic to support the nation and not who occupies the office...

fact, Gordon Brown was not voted into power.
fact, the man is NOT election-able .
fact, every British Govt since Ted Heaths Govt is complicit in sedition and treason....

so who is the traitor Missy?!

Re: adding some balance.

Your not adding any balence at all KMA as the systems are highly different

Let me illuminate you;

In the US you elect a person to be president, the president has certain powers etc that he and he alone can wield.

However in the UK, you elect a party to goverment, that party wields powers on behalf of the queen. The party leader is designated as the first lord of the tresury (or prime minister)

----

Now the change;

If a US president steps down or is removed from office, the vice-president takes power. The vice president can then choose to stay in office till the next normal election or choose to call an early election. Public opinion would usually i imagine carry some weight in this decision.

In the UK however, if a party leader steps down then a leadership contest is run within the party. The winner is then designated as first lord of the tresury and is under no obligation to call any sort of election whatsoever till the normal term of office is up, public opinion be damned.

US = people
UK = parties

(disclaimer, i know its not strictly accurate as such, but its a very good way of getting the point across)

Re: adding some balance.

sorry for my absence over the past week but i've been in hospital after complications with my ongoing eye problems and recent eye surgery...

anyways, i understand what your saying mate and i cannot disagree, however, i'm looking at it from the peoples point of view and just don't agree with either system, maybe its well past time for a change in the system?!?!

i chose the title of this topic because it might come across as me picking on the yanks all the time which i assure you all is never the case :-)

You have one interesting life, brother. :)

Glad to hear you're fixed now. :D

Also: Why doesn't the UK have a proper Chancellor?

Re: adding some balance.

what do you expect?! we don't even have a proper PM! :?

PS.

thanks for the thought but i'm afraid i will be having ongoing probs with my eye for some time :( the original injury actually changed the shape of the eye itself, kind of like taking a telescope and putting a bend in the barrel. as i'm sure i don't have to explain, it will never work right again :( :( :(

Re: adding some balance.

Kit Fox as far as i'm aware a US presidential election is held every 4 years whether or not the elected president dies in office or is impeached, someone takes over till the next election. As far as i'm aware you can count up in 4's from the first presidential election to Obamas election. Please correct me if i'm wrong, i heard this in an American Politics lecture and that was always early in the morning, concentration wasn't the best :(

Re: adding some balance.

Yeah I didnt really say it very well but the difference really just comes down to;

US = you elect a person to lead the country

UK = you elect a party to lead the country

everything can really be ignored tbh
