Did he willingly hand over the position and suggest the change, or did admin jason simply make his mind up and impose the change? I do believe the latter would be being 'laid off' or in fact sacked or even pushed into an early retirement there are many colourful ways to say it. I suppose.. you being communications admin would know the best rhetoric to use.
