Look everyone... as far as criteria... the name starts with an x... ends with an x... has sephiroth in the middle... and 4 more x's with 2 on each side... yeah... he is pretty epic 8)

but really.. its each to their own, just some seem to be renown by more the one person :)

Oh for sure!

Going to have to agree with seph on that one, definitely the criteria you have to meet to be a legend.

I find this post quite true, afterall for being a legend you must be at the right time at the right place...
sometimes it happens a single decision makes you a legend, or sometimes it takes a few, than the other time you might start massing some1 in the crucial moment and that makes you a legend in your own way, and than again different ppl have different "definitions" of a legend and some like one when others don't.

PS: Batman vs Spiderman = Definition of a "legend" (its fictional however, but) and yet both have their fanclubs.

And a little quote for those seeking to become legends:

“I may be a living legend, but that sure don't help when I've got to change a flat tire.”

Re: What makes a player a legend to you

I agree with Tekki that it's a matter of perspective, you can be a legend to one group of people if you make a big positive difference to their gaming experience, but there will always be the other side who see you differently.

I also think that those who seek legendary status are inherently selfish attention seekers who may be remembered but not in the way they wanted. In my book the ones who get legendary status, get it through selfless acts and backing up there friends & allies with all they got.

Actually, screw perspective.. Esker is a legend. Esker is everything in this game that I ever wanted to be. He owns.

Esker could manipulate ALMOST everyone. We (the Omegan leadership at the time) used to be highly amused by him. He knew his time was up when he helped Nebulator in ascension.

Re: What makes a player a legend to you

a legend?

I would presume that a to be a legend relies on two things. Having heard of the name and knowing they did something either important, to be widely respected, despised or game changing - something to make them legendary.

It does not need you to have encountered them, to have worked with them.. or to have even been around in their playing time...

Achilles... Plato... Caesar... Jesus.

They're all legendary but none of us experienced them directly, met them or even fought/philosophised/prayed/conquered with them. So I think a lot of the points of views put across here are... narrow minded "it means nothing to me"... Achilles means nothing to me.. but the name, the man is legendary no one can intelligently deny such a thing. The memories of Esker and Wolf359 have endured the years since their main departure or dwindling activity.

Yeah.. you may have someone you consider a legend.. but really that too local. One alliance may consider one person a legend when the rest of the community may have little to no knowledge of them.. I would argue they are definitely not a legend and only naive players would be so..hmm.. short sighted.

At the same point though.. it would be.. as in r/l, up to the older generations of players to educate the newer ones on the game history.

So how should we know what SGW players are true legends? It's a thought to truly ponder if you're interested...
You cannot even use the latter hall of fame entries any longer as it's been diluted with so many ridiculous entries over the past three years that it's a preposterous statement of the idiocy in this game.

faced with such a mediocre dilemma I would suggest, to find your true SGW legends, a consultation with the first entry into the hall of fame for the most accurate list.

EnterTheLion
JUAN
ESKER
ELUSIVE
BrotherCrit
Jaxin/ I Replicate
the3rdlibra (GoO)
Wolf359
UNKNOWN
Nebulator

with maybe the additions of Replijake, REK and STI.

They mastered the game when it was a challenge, they left echoes that still reverberate to this day with their alliances and other actions.

The only person in recent years you could probably grant such status too is Buck and perhaps universe for her less than ethical(?) actions which shall probably never be forgotten. Of course.. <insert morons who directly link legendary status with only benevolent or revolutionary actions>

hmm... food for thought as ever.

You would, you're on one of them. :)

I question the validity of the entries for many reasons. Firstly because too many empires and alliances have joint voted people on who really should not have the place..but as I explained earlier this is because of a localised halo effect.

On the next point is simply because the game is far more easier. As I have stated many times game merit now is nothing to what it was and should be taken into account.

Re: What makes a player a legend to you

Simply put, a legend is a player that has a long-term effect on the game, even after they are gone.

If we remember them and still talk about them years afterwards, then they did something right.
Albert Einstein:"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."
Master Splinter:"The moral high ground...the best place to sight your artillery"

I agree empires made many of the awards a joke with members simply voting the party line............ but not all, some of the winners like Clarkey, Easy^ and several others did get recognition through merit :D

I disagree... what did easy do to get such an award? *scratches head*.. make FS? You're a great bunch of guys.. but it's not exactly winning quantum three times in a row, being the most ruthless villain for a year and one of the most feared players ever, being the first to hit 100mill and be there for a long time, beating the game itself, making great changes to the game... go and look at the thread again. Most of easy's votes came from FS or former members.. it's just localised halo theory all over again. Same thing that nearly got Orpheus his place on such a list. It's not a negative thing.. it's just a product of being human.. I just happen to be misanthropic.

Clarkey? What did he do? He hunted down scammers and cheats. He did the right thing.. and for that he has mine and everyone's thanks and even a margin of respect.. but it's the same as Jade Goody a few months back when she had a death sentence and so did a lot of publicity about cancer.. I don't hero worship people for doing what they SHOULD do in their favourable positions...we should all hunt out and remove scammers and the likes from our community if we can the same as she SHOULD have, with her access to such ease of publicity made such effort to increase awareness of a disease.

Clarkey being the most successful of them for attending to it tirelessly was a product of his torchwood fantasy and something which fed his story. The only time this path truly becomes legendary is when the actions performed on it are such. I would argue the only real legendary thing about Clarkey is his eternal conflict with Hellboy and the other dude (assassinx?).. the rest is just progress for the game which everyone contributes too.
I originally voted for Buck and Blahh... when I saw the voting go to hell I added a third and voted for myself for a laugh. However.. I had over 60 people under my command at the time.. had I wanted to it would not have been difficult for me to get them to vote for me.. on the other hand though I did the contrary and told them not to bother. I did want to stop people from the same empire/alliance voting for their members.. but I just asked myself.. when do the rules stop? We all made the mistake of hoping people would be as objective as possible alas.. their personal delusions and hypocrisy were too much to overcome no doubt partly born from a broken game.
