I think racism stems from 2 things lack of knowledge or fear of some kind not a fear of whats better but what you don't know. I prefer to think for challenging those ideas not solidifying them but you can only be you.

Hate towards a given race can also serve as justification for a higher power to act with the support of the populace. For example, if a head of state sees an economic advantage in being at war with a given nation, it may convince its people that the other nation is worthy of hate.

Examples:

1. African slavery in the US. It is obvious that treating African-Americans with the contempt reserved for animals and slaves was advantageous to those who reaped profit from such a business venture that virtually eliminated labour costs.

2. The Holocaust in Nazi Germany. By exploiting the age-old hatred for Jews in Europe, the Nazi regime was able to gather support for their own particular agenda.

3. The War on Terror. After the attacks of 9/11, anyone who had the appearance of a middle-eastern man was regarded with contempt and suspicion. This helped the American government gather the support to deploy troops to the Middle East.

Those are some examples, but there are many more. As with any war, it's common for one side to spread hatred for the other, which almost always translates as a form of racism. The ultimate goal for causing the population to hate the another nationality/ethnic group is not necessarily that the one causing the hatred is hateful, himself, although he may be, but rather that it suits his own agenda to gather such support from the population.

Today, we still also have residual racism, which has found its way to our generation.
