Yes...Most certainly...and...Indeed...
I died a little inside when it happened...
As for the rest...meh, I'm holding out for the writers to get their heads around the story they want to tell...I'm betting it'll take two or three more eps before I hate it or love it...
Downside:
...Plotholes...
Just pathetic...A "modern" BC-303 should have beat any number of Ha'tak so badly that Ra himself would feel it in the afterlife...and though that's not the only plothole...I'll leave it at that...after all, the first eppy of SG-1 is so full of plotholes that I wouldn't have space to list them all here...
Upside:
...New formula...
The "baddie of the week" will now literally be the bad guy they encounter for this week. This means they will have to focus on the crew itself to generate conflict. It could turn out badly, but if done well it could also be a step in a new(and right) direction for the SG franchise...
...New characters...
Being so far from home means that main characters from the previous two series will likely not be making many appearances. And, despite what some have said, I do not believe that the characters introduced are following the same lines as previous characters. Eli, for example, is by no means an expert, does not have lots of self confidence...and generally seems to be a "nice guy"...So he does not seem to follow the established "scientist" archetype of the series (ie. Rodney, Daniel, Carter, etc)
Rush, by all appearances, also splits from the archetype. Though he is self assured and surely knowledgable, he is by no means "brilliant". He also seems to have an agenda, unlike the other "scientists" of the previous two series.
It remains to be seen if they follow the same pattern of picking up an "alien" to augment the crew. If they do, I'll be interested to see if they can come up with anything other than the obvious two reasons.
A) Alien race is oppressed/dying out, so the new character joins out of a desire to escape his/her fate.
B) Alien race is peaceful and advanced, so this new character is a scientist who joins out of a fascination with the tech, despite misgivings about "leaving forever."
(I'd personally go with the second, as it does not follow the typical pattern, and provides the crew with an "expert" for the inevitable "oh, *expletive* it's broken and I don't even know how it works!" situation.)
SO...
Overall I'd give it a 6.5-7 out of ten...just because it's Stargate and I have faith, also...I really like that the ship is a rusted old bucket...as you might expect something hundreds of thousands of years old to be.

I just watched the trailer, it reminds me of Battlestar Galatica but I love this. So hopefully, I will love this.

Re: Stargate universe
Exactly what I thought. Good episodes.
If you like Battlestar Galatica, and Stargate series you will definately love this as it has a bit of both styles of show combined.
So far so good. Looking forward to this weeks episode.

Re: Stargate universe
for starters I HATED BSG!!! the original was FAR superior, not in the individual story's or SFX (obviously) but the original concept of a benevolent and morally sound society being wiped out because they tried to help a neighbour beats the pants off of "the chickens have come home to roost" type story...
anyways, i watched SGU last night and though its VERY early days, the show has allot of potential and i can only hope they make it work to its fullest...
i was kinda hoping they would have made SGU about the early years of the ancients and how they built the Stargate system, the great alliance they forged with the NOX, the Asgard, The Furlings maybe shown the Replicators and the first signs of the Goa'uld, discovery of ascension and banishment of the Ori, many possibilities

Technically that's a plothole too. Atlantis wasn't a rust bucket when it was discovered.
If you'll recall the whole scenario with Dr. Weir, there was someone changing out the ZPM's during the ten thousand or so years it was "uninhabited".
Furthermore, given the propensity of ancients to automate everything, and the fact that Atlantis is likely much "newer" than Destiny...it's plausible, at least, that there was some sort of automated maintenance system.
In any case, I always felt it was a plothole that Atlantis wasn't a dingy old rustbucket. For reasons you stated: it was flooded, with seawater...given ten thousand years, it should have developed it's own submarine ecosystem, not to mention taken some damage.

That railgun was freaking awesome. Shame it didn't really work all that well.. but that whole place was redundant anyway, with it intact there'd still be that option of going back.
And *wow* I liked the participation of Jack..
Big grin-making performance there.

Re: Stargate universe
Watched the 2 episodes and thought ok. But some points
1) The hataks are NOT the original hataks that Goauld used in the early days.
My understanding is that SGU is set some time after atlantis comes home and it makes sense that the Luccian alliance , Athena (never did get to know what happened to her) or AN OTHER could of modified ships of the hataks, because they looked much different then the normal ones employed.
Onto the Destiny. The ship was one of the first to be built. Therefore, the ship would be very basic (compared to new ancients ships) and would not need zpms or life pods or whatever as it was sent out without personel to follow the seeder ship. i.e basic mission
Travelling through space is dangerous, even small grit particles can become dangerous enough to cause holes.
The ship may not of been built to travel as long as it did without ancient intervention in the future so the ship may of took shielding from non critical parts (similar to atlantis) to ensure the power supply never faded
One other point. Why the hell did the moonbase have rail cannons on it. Who where they expecting to turn up now as the Goauld, Ori etc etc had been taken care of.
I do hope that the new atlantis movie or the SG movie could FILL IN upto SGU.
The one thing I do know, it will not have egomanical, bad dressed symbiotic beings in it
.
(Or....... there is a person on the destiny with an alternative game plan as we never did know who "grassed" up the Icarus base yet....

Makes sense, but regardless, a shot from an asgard plasma beam weapons would still critically damage/destroy it, I mean seriously, 3-4 shots can destroy an Ori mothership, they can't take care of them puny Ha'taks?
Even so, can't they use Atlantis' wormhole drive to send them help, once they've managed to send Earth a message...

Re: Stargate universe
im watching the show for 1 reason...
i waited through the end of a series (SG-1) and 2 of its movies, a whole other series (Atlantis) and probably more movies...now to the point, i hope the writers get it right and finally find a way to introduce us to the furlings and maybe more of the nox
other then that the show wasnt to bad, im looking forward to the second episode
