A pretty hypocritical stance to take, no? "Don't cuss at me because I don't like the meaning, but you can say the exact samething else-wise."

well yes it is, but you dont have to be insulting when using other words. You can say things that mean the same in essence but say it in a polite way at least.

Whereas swearing is always insulting & rude.

An example would be the word beginning with B that describes someone born out of wedlock. Such a term was used as a killing insult even back in the 16/17/18 hundreds. To say that it is just descriptive is to miss the whole point

year is 2009. Why should we be tied by the ethics of two hundred + years ago?
I hammer something into a wall, i hit my thumb. I say a four letter word that comes out your ass... is there anything wrong with me saying that coz it's my way of showing emotion pain and annoyance at my idiocy?

The point you missed was that you classified that word as a descriptive word.

It isnt, the word was created to be an insult and has been used as an insult for centuries & continues to be used as such.

Of course people should feel insulted and annoyed when others used it about them.

Most of other so called 'swear' words are in the same boat, they were created as insults, so yeah people should be a bit miffed if those words are used against them

The XM8 is a new assault rifle, does that mean that guns are new invention now?

It's still the same damn thing, though.

That is one person's opinion which is based on something that is extremely subjective(manners).

Many words can and are insulting, even moreso than bastard, yet you suggested to use those words instead of bastard, so I ask you; what the hell is that you are arguing about? Do you even know? It seems to me that you just have some sort of phobia in regards to words that society deemed to be "evil" many years ago when they were burning "witches" and killing pagans. :-"

When did we stop killing pagans?

Still...some words are better than others in regards to insults, whereas comparison and categorizing are the usual methods...i do think we can insult each other A LOT MORE with different things, harsh words never come in the form of something you know you aren't, but the truth that saddens more than anything else and which we hide well...

Re: Swearing: contains small use of masking as a way to prove a

I am saying Jack that swearing is mostly pointless, its just an attempt to vent your anger at someone usually.

If you want to disagree with someone or object to what they are doing/saying whatever there are much different/better words that can be used that have essentially the same meaning and despite your feelings it just simply isnt the same its the difference between saying someone who rejects help when they need it is maladjusted/illinformed or saying that person is a jerk or (your choice of swear word here)

Its just that by using those other words you are at least objecting in a non insulting manner (ie less confrontational & agressive manner).

I am also pointing out that while some obviously consider some words that are considered as swear words as descriptive terms, the words were originally intended to be insults & not descriptive.

as for your whole xm8 arguement well that just stupid, the english longbow is a significantly different weapon in both build & use to a 'normal' bow. So yes it was a 'new' weapon & and yes it was completely different.

And yet it was done without swearing. Exaclty as I was saying was possible.

EDIT: I could have also used the word absurd, or inane or silly. any of those words would have got my sentiment over and yet none of them are swearing, just as the word stupid isnt swearing.

And please note I was calling your argument stupid, not you, there is a difference you know.

Phoenix Award of Character to Kit-Fox, for upholding civility on the forums, before throwing it on the ground and then claiming that hurling insults at someone's arguments and beliefs is better than swearing.
