you mean the poorly tested pesterside that is banned for agricultural use worldwide from before ww2
i think youll find that most modern pestasides are now so safe that you are safe to injest them (i personaly would avoid doing so tho )

Re: GM food
Point is that at the time DDT was considered safe & oh btw it might be banned in pretty much every country but it still gets limited use even today in some places
Whose to know if what we consider safe today will turn out to be another DDT like substance or not, its very difficult to know till its too late usually.
So making comments like 'noone can get ill from pesticides' etc is plain silly, as people have & quite obviously can.

its not like that at all. speaking personally now, i want to eat meat from animals that have been raised on grass and not cereals, dog food or unwanted supermarket potatoes.
i also want to eat fruit and vegetables grown from heirloom seed...you say your a farmer, so you should know what i'm talking about when i say "heirloom seed"?

Re: GM food
The thing is, bio farming could feed everyone IF we adapted our diet. Meat only 3 times a week etc., stuff that`s allso more healthy.
It`d be killing several birds with one stone that, but old habbits die hard. Not to mention its big business heh.

excuse me?! what impending food shortage?
did you know that up until 1-3rd of US agriculture was switched to bio-fuel production (a scam in itself), world food production stood at OVER 13 billion a year...that's right mate, enough food to feed 13+billion people a year and was steadily growing!
impending food shortage my arse!!! is always impending catastrophic global warming, impending doomsday or food shortages...what a load of bull!

Re: GM food
you are kidding me arnt you in this last 2 years world wide meat production has dramaticly redused as has ther production of crops due to removal of paymets which made groinng these things profiatble farms are not only life styles they are proper businesses and have to do what makes money but when you reduse cows and sheep numbers it takes years to bring production back to ful swing
and befrore yopu say this is goverment spin its not as they are to blind to se it (wasnt meant to be a dig at or one eyed pm lol) the worl will se food shortages again within the next 20 years

Re: GM food
We wont see food shortages or need to reduce the amount of meat eaten if govs & the agriculture business are willing to actually spend just a little of the money they have made over the last few decades.
It is eminently possible to provide both staple foods such as grains and other foods such as meat in sufficuent quantities to feed current population figures with a little effort and fore planning. This isnt happeneing as it would need money to be spent by the gov & the big agriculture businesses who have made thier money by screwing both sides (that is the actual farmers & their customers)

Re: GM food
That is if you only take the western world and its projected growth into account.
If you tried to get all humans on our diet & lifestyle you wouldnt have enouh resources on the planet to pull it off, nvm breathing space for expansion.
The problem with business & fammine is shipping cost. It costs too much to transport food, more than its to africa so we subsidize farmers to produce less or disgard it.
In theory we could feed people starving nowaday, thoe not as well as ourselves naturally. There has been talk of giving them the food for free, if only they`d come and get it, but they cant afford that and as for us sending it down, well, it stops being capitalism when you give something that has actual value doesnt it heh...
Thats the tragedy of this day and age, lives are nothing when weighed against production costs.

in all seriousness do you rely think uk farmers have made huge profits in the last 14 years? since B,S,E
as i know for a fact that the beef and sheep trade only this spring gone was £5 for sheep and quite a chunk more for cows down on 1996 and that still isnt enought to make it profitable to make a living off the only reason our country still has farmers is becaus we have adopted to jump throught hoops to get sub cheques we cant aford to farm animals currently as we'd very quick'ly go bankrupt
and all the time our goverment is encourageing us to reduse production by changing production related grants to consavation based grants we litraly have to do as they dictate or go out of bussiness

Re: GM food
If you had taken the time to read a little further into my post than the part you underlined, you would have realised that I was talking about the agriculture conglomerates (generally & loosely speaking these tend to end up to be food companies such as say nestle {or take your pick of company name that fits the bill})
I even said that such companies do indeed screw the farmers as much as the consumers.
Were you not reading or did you not let what I wrote get in the way of a good rant?
