forum vs the game

Im tired of people saying that the forum is seperate from ingame blah blah blah. If it wasn't for the game I would doubt the forums would be active at all.

So my question if the game folded would you be active on the forums.

When I didn't play I was as active if not more active at the forums. Others cannot say the same though and I'm sure with many more few remaining if the game did end, then I would leave as well. Not because the game ended though.

if the game foled many would stay, but they would still slowly die as few new faces would come but old faces would leave.

Many sections here are not connected to the game at all, so they would stay, for awhile.

If the games folded, I assume would probably be due to Jason pulling the plug.

Of the General section...
General - would probably stay,
New to forum - would die cause why would new people join?
Newbie/FAQ - Would only be filled with newbies saying "where's the game?"
GC - would be full of verbal wars and see who can be abusive the most.

For Admin - would go

Ascension / Chaos / Quantum / Origins - all probably gone along with SGW

The Market - would go, nothing to trade.

Roleplay - would probably remain.

Misc...
Recruitment etc would go.
rest would probably stay.

The Archives - full of everything that went.


Now if the game did die because Jason left it to rot then I doubt the forums would remain for much longer. The moment there is a server problem which causes the forum to crash then no-one would have access to reboot the forum, therefore forums would be clinically dead.

If that didn't happen, then forums will become out of date. Won't get upgraded to new versions. Result of this would be security patches not getting installed, forums becoming vulnerable to attack. Forums would eventually become a target and would fall. Spam control would become out of date as spam bots get more intelligent. Spam bots flood the forums.


To answer the question.......... No I would not remain.

But I would still chat to the few left on MSN as I consider them friends. And we may find a new home on a different game.

This whole issue came a bit full circle for me. For the longest time I only played the game and didn't bother with the forums. Then somehow, over the course of about three years, that situation reversed completely. Nowadays I'm more or less inactive in-game, but the only thing I drag my sorry ass back for occasionally is the forums. So it's a yes from me.

I think this question can go either way to be honest. Without a community forum how many people would still be that bothered by the game?


Personally... I am unsure. I think most of the people I know from here i'd continue to chat to over msn anyway.
