JUAN vs. Qacol (need I say more?)

It would be pretty awesome to see a match-up of say:

ETL, STI, Jake, Reborn, Lego, JUAN, Apophis, Unknown, Elusive, Esker, Jase B, Wolf, Corkscrew

vs.

JT, Qacol, Bebita, Tekki, Robe, Ceasar, Deni, Robert, Orpheus, Rodwolf,

In the current game mechanics, the new pretenders would probably beat down the old guard. With the 05/06 settings, I think the old boys would definitely have had the edge in plotting, scheming and planning.

But the area where the old guard would win hands down is the community's impression of the war.....ETL, Wolf, STI, JUAN, Esker and co had an aura of invincibility about them - they were certainly the masters of propaganda....

Loveing that, but i disagree.

If EtL and co had remained super active ingame, They would outgun anyone currently playing, Even with $ help, simply on the head start they have.

buck - if i carry on disagreeing, im going to have to put up or shut up.

Of, if they'd carried on, definitely. I was meaning if both sets started from scratch with the current mechanics....

If they were still playing they'd have a ridiculous advantage :P

Well if your starting from scratch surely the old school would prevail? They were big in the time naq and uu were impossiblely difficult to come by... the abundance it is in now, surely they would lap it up?

Devils advocare ftw.

Aye, but then you could only get those uu and naq through careful planning....by comparison a 10-year old could get the equivalent now, simply because he has a lot of time on his hands.

I've no doubt the old guard would do well in the current climate.....but could they pull comparatively as far ahead of a bebita?

Hats down, on exactly same terms with exactly same conditions old skool would win, simply because there was skill involved in making their accounts what they are and in a long run they'd use their resources more carefully and would think twice about massing small, token, defenses due to limited resources they were used to have.

All in all my bets would be on old skool dogs because you were required to have a lot more skill to succeed back then than it is required from you to succeed now, so if they succeeded with pure elegance back then, imagine what would they do now, provided there were same conditions and terms for everyone involved.

Re: A thread got me thinking... Dream Match offs.

This is not the same game it was in the beginning not even close. You cannot compare players who were here before all the changes. And you have forgot or never knew several. The Saz, The 3rd Libra more than a match for anyone in their day. Some you have mentioned and several more most never heard of. Accts took months to build and could be wiped out in a few mins if you made a mistake. Now a few people could get together build huge accts and there is no real way to stop them. If they were willing to spend a little money you would not have a chance, and they would not even have to be good. By the way maybe some have forgot or didn't know some accts were built by less than straight up tactics "back in the day" so I am sure most of them could do well now.

Your right, but the legacy and teachings of those guys lives on. You see the best of the best can play, fight, exist in any style because "we" learned and listened to thos guys and how they operated. $$ makes it easier, using ones account to generate those $$'s takes time and patience, but in the end one still has to play the game. And by the way there are those that can actually play. You can identify them very easily because they are steady slandered by thier enemies in this forum ;)

Yes there are people here who can play. I still pop on from time to time to see whats up. Just can't get the game out of my blood lol. I just don't think a match up between some of these player's (as much fun as it would be to watch) would prove anything. Several accts were built with support from people you never heard of. But to go back before all the updates and have some of these group fights would be something to see.

ETL v Robe . most of the big wars seem to lead back to those two.

I would also like to see some brotherly love happening like

Qacol v Ark
Bebita v Robert

Re: A thread got me thinking... Dream Match offs.

JT once again you're showing your, rather, poorly knowledge of how things were back then, or maybe you just take everything that doesn't suit you personally?
Fact A: People back then needed months, even years, to build their accounts to what they were and it required strategy, not button bashing - which is required now. Resources weren't around in such big quantities, heck the first massing ever to be done was an alliance coordinated attack, each player in the alliance attacked same player 2 or 3 times so they didn't lose as much because ATs were so rare
Fact B: Now a lot of people go to black market and buy their thing, unlimited resources FTW, right? It takes a day to build your account to whatever level you want (except ascension level of course, but you can already buy an account with a big ascension level that suits you) if you use money. If you farm and raid you can easily get an awesome account within weeks, it just depends on how much you can be online. It has nothing to do with tactics anymore..
