No bankai so far
they wouldn't hint at his bankai, and then not pay off later. Bleach (cannon) is awesome like that. They will hint about something in 1 episode and then not mention much about it again. Then 100 eps later and when you have that hint far far out of mind and BAM, there it is.

speaking of plot lines being hinted at and then forgotten, I'm expecting another Ichigo/Ogihci fight sometime soon so that Ichigo can finally fully master his hollow powers

as you said, nothing is mentioned which isnt brought up again

so, why else would they mention the existence of a squad zero?

well shinigami are technically dead, so if isshin was part of squad zero, therefore he must be dead, and wouldn't be able to have children in the real world right? I think it is more likely, that like ichigo, he was a subsitute shinigami when he was young. Thus how he knows urahara, which was shown in the start of the arrancar arc.
