Well we`re actually in the midst of changing legislature, but yea civil unions for now.

Healthy compromise? Depends. There are still some practical differences that really have no basis other than queer sentiment (pun intended). Afterall, we have a seperation of church and state, why would you not afford state legal rights for a union of two citizens regardless of other things? They can be denied marriage in a church still to preserve the sentimentality.

And when you say compormise you`re wrongfully assuming both sides are using reason and reason alone here. I find it when observing the ongoing discussion that people arent irked just with nomenclature. Its the fact that these people who "should be shot" & "are an abbomination" (if I quote a couple of "pearls" in this thread) should be recognised as "normal"/"acceptable"/"equal"/"with the same rights" as opposed to, I dunno, burned at the stake like in the good old times. There is no compromise with these people, just naming it something else does not cut it, they have to be kept in the "2nd class citizenship" place, apparetly for *some abstract adjective* of *some abstract notion*.

And ultimatly, as we mature as a species and civilization, there are some things we just dont compromise over anymore. Atleast we shouldnt in theory. Institutionalized discrimination for whatever reason is one of them.

I answered why I'm not in favour, without getting off topic which sadly I did on few posts coming after my first. Politics is involved according to title, thus my references to it.
It was one of reasons that I decided to follow & support national representing EPP party in my country, because most of others tend to be in favour of it, and I don't agree with why they want it to be done, and others not agreeing with it don't have same views of general things.
There's no political party in France having homophobic stances anyway, which you can get easily in cough cough moon quarter&star countries cough cough if you see what I mean.

It's not a matter of good or bad. People seeing things as "good side" and "bad sides" would have a quite more hard speech than I do...

Yah, you don't quite have the harsh virtiolic homophobia of some. But your soft, limp wristed, "someone please think of the children" kind, is just what i would expect from a Frenchmen. Not all frenchmen are like me at all, many are in favour of "let's permit everything because we are against all forms of discriminations and thus will answer positively to any minorities' demands".
In the name of tolerance and minorities sensibilities, we will allow anything they ask, no matter if it's going against our nation/group of nations traditions/roots or its republic bases.
In the end you got special hours for access to swimming pool for a certain religion (at their demand I might add!) in some cities for example, because we don't want oh no don't want to discriminate them so we accept their requests even if those requests might appear as "discriminative".
When you accept demands for some minorities of specific stuff, then all will ask for something and if you accept some requests and refuse some others, oh bad bad bad discriminations alert!

"Discriminating" is baaaad! Let's enable everything minorities ask to appear as the most tolerant bunch. D'oh d'oh d'oh.
Such words are totally over used just like "racism" word is.

Also, please tell me why is it SUCH an ISSUE why civil union isn't sufficient for gays considering hetero people practice it as well. That's obvious it's just for the sake of asking for more always for more, you give hand they ask for the arm.
Before relationship was jail sentenced, then became tolerated, then unions became an option. Now they want mariage. It's like for cats. You give them food outside of their scheduled meals and they will come at you asking for more. And if there's more than cat in the house then those will ask as well. Yes we aren't animals but figure out we sometimes act like them.
It's logical that those things (until civil union) were legalized...but asking for mariage when civil union exists? That's just to annoy around.

And before anyone brings back the black/white couples issues in the USA that got solved now...black people and white people are of same race, they can have families together and nothing is different excepted the skin. However, they are the same. We are all different in the looks (excepted twins) but there's no real differences outside of those between different ethnies. There's people from all ethnies being straight or homosexual. That's why it's different issue.

As I said, I'm not getting angry when people accuse me of those things under some conditions, of course.

If those people happened to share same pack of opinions than I do normally, and were to accuse me of that (serious accusations, sometimes people do joking accusations), then I would be angry first, then wonder why those people said so and try to find where I might have crossed the line and went a way I shouldn't have.

Otherwise, if it's people being on opposed point of view...it wouldn't be worrying for me and would just in my mind clear fact those people are definitely on opposite side.

If it's people not totally opposed to me, but not really thinking as me, I would also try to find out why they said so.

Because some people want to keep a minimum of morals in this depraved casanova's dream like world we live in. . Being too much into morals is negative, but its opposite isn't any better..
