in a debate the involved parties are actually meant to do one thing, and that is to convince the audience of their viewpoint.
not passing judgement on which is more desireable, a discussion or a debate, just noting the difference.

here's a workable solution for you:
everything stays as it is.
if someone thinks a thread is not worthy of his time, he doesn't read it.
if someone feels a thread fails to follow logic, he states it respectively.
if someone feels he likes a thread subject and the way it's being discussed, he takes part in it.
quality control is maintained, on a thread-to-thread basis.
no subject is banned due to the way certain people go about it.
as a bonus, a new thread is opened up where people try and give some ideas in applied logic, advice on how a proper debate is conducted, and what is usually considered constructive, and what is just bickering.
we all try to just get along

Disappointing that the PC BS has reached SGW but not totally surprising, next the Health&Safety nuts will arrive saying we can only play for limited hours a day, then green meanies will show up saying we burn to much electricity

However you over look the obvious, as religion effects peoples points of view, it is inclusive in every argument/debate.

Sweetheart, I didn't overlook the inability to separate religion from arguments. And, in case you're wondering, that is not what I said you couldn't do either. What I DID say, was that we will no longer host debate on the subject of religion. Why? Because you cannot focus on the discussion at hand.
No "my God is better than yours because I got a book that's two years older" discussions in threads on subjects that are not originally related to that subject. When you're discussing the Israeli-Philistinian conflict, of course you're going to say "omg it's jews vs muslims". No one said you would no longer be able to do so. But you're not going to derail the thread and make that the main subject of the discussion.

Seriously. It's dramatic how little you people read the posts which outline the actual change, and instead hype on each others lack of comprehension thereof. You know? Maybe I want to move all religious people into a concentration camp. Wouldn't that be a plausible next step? So why don't you complain about that? It is obvious you guys have quite the imagination..


Anyway. Back to what I said in the beginning. You will EITHER learn to focus your religious debate in a few religious debate threads, or you will move your efforts to a pulpit forum where you can pollute each and every thread with discussions on religion in threads that, when they were first posted, had nothing to do with it.



To illustrate on a slightly more compatible level, perhaps:
When we're talking about cats and dogs, and Billy Bob says "God sure made cats and dogs real pretty, with that fur and those eyes, and paws, they are just like elephants", that is not the start of a nauseating discussion on whether or not God exists and if he does, what name he'd prefer.. drowning out the discussion about the cats and the dogs. It is a comparison between cats, dogs and elephants. Tell Billy Bob you wouldn't compare elephants to cats and dogs due to differences in size and habitat, but don't go and have your God-discussion in every **filtered** thread. Ey?

You need to learn to focus on the discussion. Not on your own topics of interest, attempting to steer discussions towards your private show.
And since you lot have the habit of ending up with religious bickering in threads on the most diverse of subjects, the most logical course of action is to ban this kind of derailment until such time when you prove you can handle the subjects maturely.



But I guess you'll just go and attack my example again. Have fun with that.

It all may be fine and dandy like candy in what you said, however, there are some instances where the topic demands a religious PoV.

For example the HP thread, that was a religious thread at the beginning. Which was the prime starter for this 'review'.


Other threads also have religious ties and the mindsets play a bigger role, such as with the evolution debates, debates on any sort of moral issue and the list goes on.
