all of the underlined rests on the assumption that our society doesn't collapse into anarchy, or even worse, society doesn't fracture into camps of opposing views and wants. we may end up with 2 opposing camps, camp 1 openly abandoning all religious faith and embracing the aliens. camp 2, those unwilling to believe their eyes and accept what we have been taught MAY be incorrect.

personally, i would be in the middle somewhere.

2 things..
1. That's pretty much a description of the world as it is.. we don't really need aliens for that. If they'd come, things couldn't get much worse. In fact.. it might unite the human race. But that's just wishful thinking.
2. If you'd be in the middle of the only 2 camps there are, would you not be part of a third camp? I think you're right.. but it sounds more like a continuum, with quite a few people 'in the middle', but still quite polarised.

i'd have to agree with all your points.

1, yep, you are right, if the world split into 2 camps as those i have described, it would merely be a switch of reasons for the hostility, with a few shuffling from 1 camp to the other.

2, if i end up in the middle and i'ts a minority at that, i would keep my mouth shut for fear of being singled out.
to openly admit i am in the middle, i would have to be in a majority or risk retribution and/or death.
