Re: Israel deporting humanitarian activists
As long as they are not Israeli citizens, of course they have the right to expel them from their country.
Would you rather have had them detain them all for weeks? That would be the Hamas way.

Really, bear baiting....
I have come to the conclusion that no can see this issue rationally, since it so goddamn polarizing. I guess when there is a fight, it might be human nature to pick a side.

Would you rather have had them detain them all for years (without as much as being visited by the read cross)? That would be the Hamas way.

Re: Israel deporting humanitarian activists
Shouldnt the title and discussion be about "Israel shooting humanitarian activists"?
Seriosly, they had sticks? And went up against boarding commandos with them? And the end result was the commandos opening fire lol? Wth happened to the famous krav maga etc.?
You cant shoot unarmed civilians like that, even if they`re not happy to see you. And no, I dont count a broomstick as valid armament when going up against commandos lol. If everyone handled simmilar situationds to this one like IDF thered be 1000s dead in the last protests in Greece allone.
Blaming the activists "cos they should have known better" is absurd. Hth could anyone have knonw what would happen, never has such an incident transpired before. No country EVER boarded a humanitarian convoy in international waters and opened fire on civilians before. Cos its damn right criminal.
Migtaswell blame the jews for staying in europe in the 30s, they should have known better.
The resulting deaths are completley inexcusable. Was it a political provocation to draw attention to the state of gaza? Yes. A completley legitimate one. Hamas & Iranian agents lol? Tel aviv is taking the world for complete muppets with such statements.
Boarding and maintaining a blocade might be legal(ish) but its not legitimate nor moral.
There is zero justification for colectivly punishing 2mil people and shooting humanitarian activists. On that the whole world agrees in their condemnations. Except for the beacons of justice, equality, freedome etc. BS in the US that is lol.
Israel has been getting away with murder (litterary) for years. But this is a bit much even for them. I mean enough is enough, yea you`ve suffered during ww2, but that doesnt give you an indefinate carte blanche to do what you do.
Israel is part of the ME problem, not the solution. Sooner or later we (as in international community) are gonna have to start treating it and its actions as such.

Re: Israel deporting humanitarian activists
i look at it like this: (from the view of an Australian)
the humanitarians are like the "boat people", the Australian navy(or in this case, Israel military) has an obligation to protect our waters from them, they are trying to enter our country illegally, bypassing customs,
the humanitarians ignored the Israeli government by not going to the correct port,
the Australian navy would not let humanitarians just stroll on into the country on a boat. so why should the Israeli military?
granted, they didn't have to go guns blazing, their was plenty of non-lethal options.
and they did intercept them apparently in international waters. which is wrong, they SHOULD of waited till they where in Israeli waters.
also, i thought it was appalling of the humanitarians to throw their passports over board, who do they think they are? do they believe they are above the law their.
their is a RIGHT way and a WRONG way to do things, if their true intention was to do good in a bad situation, they should of followed the rules.
i cant go to America or any other country in the world, in a boat and just arrive where i want without a passport and think everything is good.
hell, even jessica watson (for you Aussies) who went around the world solo un-assisted had to be checked by customs before allowed to leave the boat.

Re: Israel deporting humanitarian activists
If it was my command, I would have just followed the ship and asked to set up a guard possition at what ever port they were trying to arrive at. (this arrival was announced before hand)
Failling authroization to do that. I would have attempted to baord the ship in the waters outside gaza. Using alot of tear gas, tazers, and whatever submachingun the israelis use( i think its some kind of ump). Not lower the boarding party one by one on to a deck full of people like lambs to the slaughter; in international waters.
I still can't comprehend what the israelis commanders were thinking.

thats the only thing about this that should be easy for anyone to work out (that's not meant as a disparaging remark
)commando: "but sir, what will the international community say if we board that ship while in international waters and shoot a bunch of them?"
commandos commander: "who the **Filtered** cares what they say?!"
that is the attitude Israel portrays is it not?

Generally,
it just wasn't sound tactically, usually they are pretty good in the excution department of their military operations.
Maybe when the turks were filling the boat with supplies, they mixed the meat with the dairy.

Re: Israel deporting humanitarian activists
Autopsies apparently revealed that 5 of the nide dead activists were shot in the head, one 19 year old 5 times from point blank range + several more times in his body.
No comment required.
No wonder they dont want an international investigation.

Re: Israel deporting humanitarian activists
I'm very interested to know results of an international investigation.
We never know what would be the result, and we could all be surprised by what the outcome would be.
My opinion is, Israel fell for the trap set to them by this group, which didn't expect things would turn that bad because they thought the diplomatic argument would save them. Now, where to place the angry mobsters filmed in the video in all of this, well, they are likely to be starters for the derailing.
I don't understand why an aid fleet would accept such troublemaking people among them. Gives them a bad image and increases risk factor, especially for the pacifist part of the fleet.
