A couple of possibilities maybe.....
IIRC, someone deleted their account with a nice planet and it was found. So I think deleting put the planets back into circulation.
Found it... yeah it was pollywog that deleted his account and his UP planets were found by others...

But yea, pretty sure there's a bug where the planet never comes back. I believe the longest I've had one gone was maybe 3 days before someone found it, while the other was up to 3 months before I finally gave up and used my last beacon on it.
