it seems like there are a lot of accounts with no defense left. Did I miss something big? Or have I gained some magic sixth sense?

Lots of people are inactive so have no defenses, and lots of people are at war so have no defenses, and lots of people have realised you dont need a defense so dont build one.

Why would you ever need a defense? People are always going to farm you unless you waste trills and trill building. but then people can just come and mass it.

its true they can mass it but by simply having a defense you also make them take losses

If they have a bigger MS and better planets (which they probably do if they are massing you) then you will take bigger losses

I hadn't realized you need a defense that high...but i have a goal now 10T defense coming right up
