Let x = 0 and y = 10.
Then you get (0.175*0 + 0.1*10) > (0.12*0 + 0.1*10)
Which is (0 + 1) > (0 + 1) which is not true, since 1 = 1
x = planetary defense
y = platform defense

Like i said in another post, natural defence and platform defence are not combined when calculating if a fleet is destroyed or not.
Ok my bad then, but the triangular rule applies here which means the chances of fleets being destroyed are the same
or bigger than they used to be, at least as far as I can gather.
x = 10, y = 10
(0,175*10 + 0,1*10) > (0,12*10 + 0,1*10)
1,75 + 1 > 1,2 + 1
2,75 > 2,2
I'll also have to correct (or maybe just fulfill) you a bit. It isn't natural def + platform def, that's true, I was wrong there.
It is 0,175*x if and only if 0,175*x > 0,1*y
If 0,175*x < 0,1*y then you have to have 0,1*y fleet power not to have your fleets destroyed, as 0,175*x is the limiter whether you can attack someone or not, but it doesn't necessary define whether your fleets do get destroyed.
