But it had a quote. Therefore I posted more than "just a smiley" which abides by the rule you decided to create and enforce.

quoting someone else, doesn't mean you've posted more than a smiley, since the forum itself is capable of making quotes appear in a post.

So does quoting off-site and then posting an emoticon count as "only posting a smiley"? Or is it that only posting a smiley in reaction to a quoted post from on the forum, be it from the thread you are posting in or another thread that may be related, that is not allowed?

For example: Can I quote a famous author and then post " " and have my post left alone? Or will you delete it?

I just want to get this new not-really-rule-because-only-one-mod-is-enforcing-it-for-no-real-reason-other-than-boredom straight so that I know what I can post without having it deleted. Then I don't have to worry about coming back into a thread and finding my posts missing.

might not be, depending on the context of the discussion, because the quote is an actual part of the post. may not be according to the spirit of the rule however, and based on that line of reasoning, i might remove it as well.

Could we (meaning forum users in general) get a better clarification on this new "rule" and how it will be enforced?

I mean, do users actually have to stay "on topic" in the SPAM section? Really? We go off topic all of the time and are never warned for it, unless a mod is feeling feisty. And now there is this sub-rule that is only enforced by Psi Kiya Trist.

If I do post something like the example Psi mentioned in the quoted area, will you really delete it if you think it is "off topic" in the Spam section? Obviously I know he will, because he's twisted like that, but I want to know if this is going to be something enforced by all Mods, or if it's just his pet peeve that he has made his own personal mission.

Can I post a link and then post an emoticon after said link and not have it deleted? Many people already post only a link and those posts aren't deleted. Does adding an emote change that?? People post either their own quotes or ones from people in other threads with nothing else and those posts are left alone, even though they don't "say" anything that, according to the rules...

Replies will be considered spam if they do not contribute to the discussion of the topic.

Should we, meaning you, crack down on all such posts as well? Hell, if mods have so little to mod about that they have to make up things for themselves to do, maybe we don't need as many mods.

Sorry for the /attitude/ but I'm not the only one on forum who finds this to be pretty ridiculous. The short posts have been flying around the Spam section since long before I was even a member here, and no one has really seemed to mind. So why is it such a big deal now?

Hopefully seeing as you brought this up you might get an answer.

Posting a single smilie in other sections of the forum has been allowed and sometimes has been treated as spam.

Therefore if it is allowed in other sections of the forum without breaking rules (i.e. the spam rules) then it should be allowed in the Spam Temple.

If it has been treated as spam outside of the Spam Temple then it should also be allowed in the Spam Temple as the Spam rule should not apply to the Spam Temple.

some replies only need one emo like this i felt like doing that for badwolf who sent 74 million men and failed on loce war but reading this I didnt wish to be *spamming* when the doh emo was because I knew badwolf in game pretty well

I also know there was one guy who posted lots of hi five emos annoyed me on lots of topics thats spamming for sure as clarkey as just shown today posting same thing in lots of topics some topics are fine for one emotion posts as I just gave the option I'm sure but common sense should prevail over spamming in a "spam" section? its there to write nonsense and not generally fixed topics all the time

Honestly, if a smiley is used in response to another person's post, I feel as if that should be acceptable. The users who decide to flood the spam temple by hitting every thread and posting " " in each one is obvious spam.

Systematically removing ALL one-smiley posts is excessive when you compare the two cases.

I personally never treat a quote and a reply of a single emoticon as spam. I find it stupid in most cases but I don't treat it as spam... if there is no quote however I split the post and issue a verbal warning for spam.

Why? If I were replying to Psyko or the OP, there wouldn't be any need for a quote.

Why? If I were replying to Amy or the OP, there wouldn't be any need for a quote.

How am I supposed to know what you're replying to? It's quite borderline to reply with only an emoticon and quote, no quote does not contribute to the discussion (as per rules) if even a quote makes it so that it does.

Usually if someone replies to a post without a quote and just a smilie it's usually the very last post they are replying to, therefore no need for a quote.

Otherwise you are saying that people have to quote everything if they only intend to reply with a 'lol' smilie.

According to him, that just depends on his mood; I'm sorry, how he reads the post/feels it relates to the topic. So I wanted to get the Mods and Admin to talk about it so that there would be more of a consensus as to what breaks the rule and what does not. Simply stating the the rule stands does not help answer my question.

He told you already, it depends on his mood. You're not going to get warned or bant for posting single smiley posts in the Temple, so don't worry about it.
