voting/ballot papers

should we have the option of voting for "None Of The Above" on our voting slips/machines/whatever?

Re: voting/ballot papers

as opposed to voting for the lesser of 2 evils, which is only voting against someone you hate, which isn't voting at all.

I think they do that because the majority would vote for none of the above.

If None of the above was the most commonly voted, guess there'd be anarchy as no government would be in place. Lol.

Re: voting/ballot papers

i considered that but i don't think it would come down to anarchy. a temporary coalition Govt could take charge till a new vote with new faces could be cast. or we could just have the previous Govt continue in power with limitations placed on them till again, we could have a new vote with new faces set up.

It was a joke, hence the Lol, I highly doubt in this day and age any western government would turn to anarachy over something like that....

Although I could see it causing a bit of problem, as if it came down to more people voting on "None of the Above" than any of the other parties then re-elections might occur a little too often. I think, however, that it might be a good idea if a mandatory vote was imposed, as those who would normally just... not vote, could vote none of the above, and have it counted as nothing. >.> Altogether seems rather pointless though.

Re: voting/ballot papers

no it wouldn't count towards anything anyway.

Not marking the paper indicates the above anyway :)

Re: voting/ballot papers

Not makring your paper or making two candiatates does NOT count for the same thing as 'None of the above'

Instead its counted as a spoilt ballot, which arent even counted.

So no its not the same

 you think they are going to bother counting all ballots ticked/marked none of the above, and what point there be if they did. End result is the same.

@Ashu, Voting is compulsory in Australia for everyone over 18. Fines for not turning up apply.

that's not the same mate. the poiont is your making a statement by saying "i want to vote but not for any of you", where as not voting is taken as a sign that you couldn't give a crap about voting or your to lazy to tear yourself away from the square thing in your front room....or other such excuse/s.

Well yes if it was an option on the ballot paper they would be required by law to count how many people chose it. They wouldnt have a choice in the matter

So your way still isnt the same & wont lead to the same result. Spoilling your vote or just not putting any mark on the ballot doesnt work & shouldnt be encouraged

I see your point, but voting is to choose someone, your choice validates no one. Perhaps a type of option that, if chosen, annuls both candidacies. (or as many as there are)
