Re: lol dont ya love knight
i think after visiting the forums for over 4 years, i know the rules.
I was warned for saying an english word. Apparently spelling something the way it is said in english, is now masking. I was not warned for insulting someone as you so stated.
arse: english
ass: american
You can't mask the word in american, and expect your english members not to say it in their own language with the suffix that suddenyl makes the word offensive.

Re: lol dont ya love knight
since when is ass/arse a prohibited word??? wouldn't that mean it would be filtered like **Filtered**
he can't get you on masking, only if its a naughty word
which would mean it would be filtered in the english and/or the americanised version

The word was filtered with its american spelling.
The british english one is added to the filter now aswell.

What? Alright, the combo of two certain words is offensive, and the use of 'ass / arse' can be offensive too (depending on the circumstances), but aren't you going a bit TOO far with adding both words to the filter too? In case it is offensive, it can warned, but adding to the filter?

One was on the filter already, the other was not... so only one was added... Having them on the filter removes the need to warn for them. Had this forum been considerably more of an "police state" anyone triggering the "*Filtered*" text would have been warned... be glad it isnt that way (we are)

In the name of the gods, Browsers shall be changed to carry the internet out amongst the peoples and we will spread Firefox to all the unbelievers. The power of the Firefox will be felt far and wide and the wicked users of IE shall be converted to use the true browsers."

Still, despite the possible 'slang' use of the words, IMHO it is still a bit overdoing to put both words on the filter

Re: lol dont ya love knight
hmm interesting,
in my opinion its very questionable to warn someone for saying a word that is filtered with a different spelling. It certainly isn't masking...it may be rude and inappropriate but in normal circumstances it isn't his fault for posting it, if it were filtered

the point is, it isn't misspelt, otherwise it would count as masking, i agree.

Do you really care that it's on the filter or is it just the idea that bothers you? I can't imagine you would miss using the word that much and could make an argument that it's often not used in an offensive capacity.

Weather it was / wasn't on the filter is not really point. It is still an insult as he used it.
I called it a masking offense but could of called it an insult. Either / or at the end of the day he still gets a warning.

Lazy is what im going to call this one. Either warn him for the right thing, in other words, the right set of words, or don't bother warning him at all.
Fail x2.
The one that I use (and you too) is filtered, the British spelling (it's always weird) was not filtered.
The report was on masking. But meh, I am lazy.

Re: lol dont ya love knight
Knight has just shown yet again what sorry excuses of Mods you all are.
I say this because first of all the american version of the spelling was added to the filter list a long time ago. The administration at that time and all administration since then (yes I was one) failed to realise that certain words on the filter list are americanised and don't have their English counterparts on there too.
This firstly lead me to a funny point about the rules themselves.....
Section 5: Language
a. English
Members of the SGW forums are required to speak in English at all times. Members should also respect that English is not the first language of all users and respect that some people struggle with it more than others. LOL
Anyway, my main serious point is that yes the american version of the word was on the filter. However, is there any proof that the guy that was warned was aware that the word was even on the filter list? I mean I doubt he was aware that the american version was on the filter list because if he's English then he won't type it in american and therefore would have no idea it was filtered. That then leads me on to the point that as the english version was not on the list and this seems to be the first situation where it has been typed in english that being given a warning is very OTT and tantamount to mod-brutality.
I say that because Knight clearly assumes or expects that EVERY person on this forum should be aware of the English words AND their American counterparts. Considering this is the first occurrence of it a warning should never have been given straight off.
How can you claim that someone who is not american and writes something correctly (correctly for his nationality) is falling foul of the masking rule when they are in fact just writing in English a correct and NOT edited spelling to avoid the filter. If Knight you are serious when you say you put masking instead of insult because you are lazy then that just shows what an incompetent GM you actually are.
Belinsker hadn't even been on the forums to post since 16th Sep, and I have seen many many times before where a rule violation has been missed and several months have gone by and when it's pointed out it is just edited. This again shows inconsitencies in modding because last time I got warned and pointed out historic instances of the exact same thing nothing was done about them, no modding, no warnings.
Giving a board warning to someone because the administration (past and present) failed to identify the english version of words on the filtered list is rediculous. Zeratul, you say the words are on the filter list so that warnings don't get given for them as they appear **filtered**, yet it is not Belinsker's fault that the administration failed to add the English version to the list. Why should he suffer for the failure of the administration? And why should he suffer because incompetent GM's expect everyone to know the american and English version of the written words.
I expect that Admins will blindly stand by their GM and fail to admit any wrong doing by this GM. That is their way, they are scared to admit something was wrong.
It would be interesting to know the Oms thoughts on this. Do they expect everyone on this forum to know what the american and English version of words are? Do they expect everyone to know every word on the filter list?
This is one of the worst warnings i have seen.
