Another file sharing site gets closed by US court injunction

I cant say the name of the site due to forum rules but Im sure many of you know what its called.

US court has just placed an injunction on a very popular file sharing site, saying it can not longer support or distribute the software, the company responsible for this action is also trying to get a list of subscribers.

Not only has this court ordered a company to breach it's support contacts with subscribers, but it is trying to order a breach of confidentiality. Basically a US court ordering people to break the law.


Any thoughts / opinions ?

I can't say this is surprising in the US, where the LAW is the Government and whatever interests it may have. Please correct me if i am wrong. Also i am surprised that they did not counter-sue.

@ Kit-Fox, last time I posted a commercial website name in a discussion on these forums I got a warning from the mods for advertising, but yes thats the one I was referring to.

And I found out that it still works if you re-install an older unsupported version.


Remember sharing copyrighted materials is illegal, but file sharing is not. This file sharing site had a very clear user agreement stating that it was not to be used for sharing copyrighted materials.

There are many products you can buy legally and use for illegal acts, I find it amazing that a country that allows the legal sale of firearms designed and used to kill people without holding the manufacturers or sellers responsible can at the same time hold a software provider responsibly for something as comparatively petty as copyright infringement by some its customers. File sharing never killed anyone, and those trying to stop file sharing are still obscenely rich, they just want to be even more obscenely rich.
