That is not a bad idea but you can make it so that when a player is descended they will automatically be sent to purg BUT also have an option to retun; this is mainly aimed at the more aggressive players who want to return to fights really ;)

overall purg is too outdated so yes a revamp will make it better..

Maybe it's the fact that a lot of people still don't understand how to play ascended, or atleast prevent themselves from being descended.

I mean there's no help guide is there.
A help guide should start being written up sometime in our futures

Also then dont send them to perg to take their frustrations out on noobs

Rather impair them in other ways like reverting all their stats to unascended status including weapon strength and phasing them from using more than 500 turns a day for the 2 weeks they unascended

I see a lot of benefits with this suggestion. At the moment purg is a joke. The purpose of it has been lost and it needs to be fixed. I do feel however that purg should be accessable for new players under 20m army just incase they aren't ready/don't want to be in main. However a maximum of 60 days can be spent in purg before being kicked out permanently. Also the newer accounts should get some form of turns to use while their 30 days in purg can be. As for the descended going to purg. I feel that it could add some spark to the game. Right now if an inactive gets descended it's nothing. Just less income to be farmed, but this way they get sent to a different server where they can't do any sort of attack except to the other people who have been descended.

Several players suggested he should revamp Purgatory instead and I happen to agree.

Some of my suggestions would be:

All new players start off in Purgatory for 30 days until they get a handle on the game.

During this time they are not be able to be attacked or trade with players in main.
They should get added bonuses to help them start off such as double bank size and AT.
Once they have been playing > 30 days they would auto graduate to the main realm.

No player should be able to elect to go to Purgatory to hide.

If a player is descended then they should be sent to Purgatory for 30 days.

What are your suggestions for revamping Purgatory?

Yes to all apart from the descended players, cause if they get sent to perg then they have a free vacation from main players.

at the admin meet when Jason brought up new server, I suggested revamping purg to suit the same purpose for his reasons for making a new server. I posted them here: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=181235 after the admin meet. Also posted other ideas, but my original suggestions regarding changes to purg are also in there if anyone cares to look.

I think in general its a good idea, bout time something was done to the perg hiders, and its a good place to dump descended people, especially snipers.

This I like. Perg aint a place for hiders, it should be for people who are new, and get the hang of it. Let them build in Perg, let them come for fun to main :)

Would seriously effect war if you descended say half an alliance, could really turn the tide in wars, or make it one sided. Not sure this is a positive or negative thing.

Commentary:

If the idea is to get new players into purgatory then let's change it's name to something else that isn't quite as derogatory or that - "Newbieland" should do it :D

Anyway joking aside, revamping purg over starting a new server/game is definitely a good idea. This game needs new players or we sit around looking at the same faces and the same wars all the time. That's a pretty quick way of making people scram. If new players are going there I would say they can be there for 3-6 months and that in purgatory their incomes are increased and UP as well, though I would also give them a larger starting size and bank space. Currently new players are screwed over by their inability to buy anything. Possibly also make ascensions faster for new accounts but not convinced on that.

For other players wishing to go into purgatory then I would also say that is fine, but they cannot attack anyone who is a new player in purgatory. There would probably need to be some sort of colour coding system on names to make that easier to see perhaps - green, older players in Purg, blue, new players, etc but that's a detail and can be worked out later.

For putting descended players into purgatory while I'm for that, in principle they should not be allowed to attack other people. You are descended for 2 weeks, so for one of those weeks you are in purg, unable to attack for the other you are back in main able to attack but with the no bonus you have usually. That would still be punishment.

I do however agree with Supersaiyan that while it was the past, at least some of the reason ascended is such a screwed up server is that it wasn't necessary to play it. Then it became necessary. But the APP didn't grow. Then this changed. Then that changed. Then all that changed. etc etc. But the core of it was that when it came out, it was not complete so there was no reason to play it, while there was PLENTY of reason to ascend as cheaply as possible.

Summary:

  • Revamping purg INFINITELY better than starting a new server
  • New players can go there for 3-6 months with an increased UP/income/AT generation to help them catch up
  • New accounts get bigger armies, bigger banks, more naq and ATs to start with - say 1 million UU, 1trillion bank, 1trillion naq and 3k ATs.
  • Older players can go to purg and can attack the new accounts but may only stay there for 1 week and can only attack the account once a day for 50% of the naq out.
  • Descended players go to purg for 1 week but can't attack anything before they are flung back into main and can attack but with their descension still there for another week.

Actually that's not true Clarkey, though I do admit the help guide is on the forum, it's available as soon as you log in though. (I went to go and be useful and find it and can't find it now, but I know it's there somewhere)

This is quite true. It reduces the number of farms for the alliance who did the descending but at the same time it means that the alliance attacked is out of the picture, so victory for the alliance attacking is almost auto declared. Though the problem with a lot of wars these days isn't the victory it's the getting it admitted.

I was being cynical with that one, ofc a reset won't happen, but it was the other extreme end which no one dares mentioning.

While in fact a reset 'could' do a lot of good on ascended, it would need far more then putting everything on 0. (more updates etc)

i would have to mostly if not agree with everything you said, however i would have to bring up a few points:

i would have to strongly suggest that ascension times be increased but that will have its own problems ill mention later.
Will purg be then using its own ranking system or will it be ranked within main realm as it is now?
Because whether time between ascensions differ or not wont matter, the resources they have to gain within what will be there when the server is released (hardly any new players there + older accounts building relatively huge defences) will be quite a task in itself. Even so if you cant trade. This is referring to gaining the resources to ascend and actually getting into gnr rank. To top it off they will still have to wait 3 weeks to get the necessary GnR, unless they gain some super human strength to get into 5 gnr range.

My suggestion would be just to allow the same ranking system as now between the realms however for new accounts to have a different set of gnr thresholds.
As for ascending the times should be decreased (as long as more GnR is received as it would be pointless otherwise), so assuming GnR is increased or received more rapidly, then i would propose 5 days between ascensions up to LG (25 days speed ascending)-1 week up to AG (35 days speed ascending) - 1 week 3 days up to Lord (60 days speed ascending) - 2 weeks to UNK ( 98 days s.a, which is the normal time), so in all thats over 7 months of speed ascending still. Which im sure quite the majority will aim for before they will want to build other things, apart from MS and planets. Unless your idea of purgatory would be more of a guide than an actual boost to a range even close to what people are sitting at now, in which case i would have to say then the only worthwhile benefit for that server would be a good place to dump the descended and nothing more.

Also, instead of setting a time limit for players to move from Purgatory to normal realm...

All news players that entered the Game via Purgatory could stay there until they reached Living God (5 ascensions),
at which time they could elect to join the normal realm.

However, they would not be required to leave until they reached Ancient God (10 ascensions), which is cheap and easy to attain.

This would provide an environment for new players to learn how to play as lone wolves,
without being hassled by players from the the normal realm (main).

The game could be kept simple without commanders, alliances, houses, techs or planet platforms.

Purgatory could have a dedicated section of forums just like ascended.

Purgatory players could purchase a Supporter Status to trade with other players in purgatory.

At the moment we are throwing in ideas to change pergatory, but if I'm not mistaken, none of us are in pergatory.
Are there any suitable representatives from the pergatory realm ?
because
I would think there is an established playing community there, perhaps not all that communicative, but I would be wrong to think that currently noone actively plays there, or am I wrong?.

More alliances have sprung forth from pergatory.
Lets not surprise them with updates for pergatory none pergatory players suggested.

Out of curiosity, Admins, how many long term pergatory players log in daily and play gatewars ?.
