Has anyone been to...?

Mexico (Yucatan specifically and the Mayan ruins)
Jordan (Petra)
China (Forbidden City)

Thinking of booking a holiday and was wondering if anyone has been to any of the above and what they thought of it? Or if anyone has any other suggestions for a history buff to visit? :D

Take a tour through egypts historical places such as the pyramids and valley of the kings.
Awesome sights.

A lot of history there.

What do you have in mind? I'm tempted by Machu Pichu, but its damned expensive. I can take a tour around Petra and China for the same price 8-[

Been twice. Great to do a cruise down the Nile too - some places everyone should see before they die ;)

Thanks Femme and Eary, I'll see if I can pester them at some point :P

Re: Has anyone been to...?

The Nile was awesome yeah :D

How about:

Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland.

Might seem like an odd suggestion, but in fact this makes an heavy impact on many of those that visited it. And its filled with history ofc.

Re: Has anyone been to...?

everything is a joke in front of Tiahuanacu , a great stone city said to be stone but not yet to be found what kind of stone. from videos u can see high tech tools has been used to built that city.
Tiahuanacu (also called Tiwanaku) is a mystery because of its age (estimated to be 17,000 years) and the peculiar stone technology.

another great discovery is found to be in Turkey , recently found a city under sand with amazing infrastructure, belived to be sunked in sand by purpose to preserve it.
Gobekli Tepe (the name means "belly hill" in Turkish)

Just take a trip through the former Yugoslavia and you can find complete Mithras temples, pyramids, ancient mosques/churches and a heck of a lot more. ;)

Also, regarding Auschwitz; I can't really think of a reason why you'd want to go there. That's like visiting the 'former' Buddhas of Bamiyan, see the black hole that is the 'soul' of mankind. But if you're into that sort of thing..

I loved the Eternal Fires in Azerbaijan. Shame most of that is destroyed now.

One thing I would recommend RepliMagni, as I think he'll like it:

Teotihuacán is not on Yucatan though but close to Mexico City. Still an impressive sight though :P
