X-Men: First Class

So, I went to see this movie tonight and I rather enjoyed only one aspect of the movie. The filling in of the many questions I had regarding who these people were, etc.

The one downside was..it was a bad movie in terms of lines for me. The plot was great, but the wording the characters gave was very poor and cliche.

Anyone else seen it?

I'd rate it around 6/10. Probably worth a rent or download just to see the loopholes filled in.

Re: X-Men: First Class

It may have worked a little better if the movie bothered to try to follow the original story.

You'd think it would be easy to use the same characters has the original comic

The movie was quite enjoyable how ever, did you guys notice that if you watch X-Men first stand the storyline there does not add up compared to this ones?

I'm gonna watch nr. 3 tonight to varify #-o

Re: X-Men: First Class

I saw this yesterday, and I thought it was absolutely fantastic.

Despite being a comic book fan, I am generally quite sceptical of comic book films. I sometimes fear that in effort to make the films feel overly epic and action-packed, they sacrifice some of the nuanced subtlety which makes their paper counterparts so powerful. Characterization is sacrificed, and they have a tendency to pile on the cheese to cringe inducing levels. Too much CGI, too little plot. Too many explosions, too little drama. This film, however, was fantastic. It is to X-Men what Batman Begins was to the Batman franchise. A classic, down-to-earth reboot.

The absolute highlight for me was the relationship between Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Charles Xavier (John McAvoy). Their acting, and their chemistry, was superb. Watching their scenes together is something special. Their, bromance, for lack of a better word, is the defining thrust of the film. You can see how much they care about each other. You desperately want them to be able to stay friends, which only makes the film's inevitable conclusion all the more tragic.

10/10 for me (we seem to be disagreeing a lot lately, Noobert :()

X-men last stand = an assault on the comic book history
x-men first class= very true to word in comparison.
Consider it a good thing that first class was totally different to last stand.

I really enjoyed the movie. Loved the fact that it was fairly historically accurate (up to a point where the mutans get involved...) and my comic book geek friends loved the comic book history behind it.

James McAvoy was very good I thought and provided an interesting dimension to Professor X.

Only downside was that Darwin was such a minor character!

Re: X-Men: First Class

As I said, this movie would have been an easy 10/10 for me if those romantic, horrible lined scenes were removed or made better and/or more realistic to the situation.

I loved the movie, and definitely plan on rewatching it but..it's pain inducing to see acting such as that in those scenes. The rest was great though.

The First X-men were called Angel, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Beast and Cyclops. Marvel Girl and Iceman made no appearance, and for some reason they used Cyclops's brother :?

Despite these discrepancies (which I think occurred so they had some new characters and powers to introduce to fans), I have to agree with Mordack on the aspects of the film. It was a solid film that was much better than the action-packed overdone-ness of the previous X-Men films.

I felt like this film was driven by the plot instead of it being driven by characters and fight scenes with some plot thrown in randomly.

Comic books never really did have the most realistic lines, so I found this to be a forgivable offense.

And if you are upset by the change of characters in X-Men, don't watch Green Lantern, because they do make some similar changes.

Re: X-Men: First Class

I'll watch it because it has Ryan Renolds (I don't know why, but every movie of his has good humor), and the fact it's a comic book movie.

Funniest bit about my loving of comic book movies? Never touched a comic book in my life. :-D

I knew a guy who had collected comics since they were worth a penny each though..his daughters only wanted them to sell them..lol..

It's actually a pretty good movie. I'd say it's on par with Thor.
