Car Crashing 101

On the way home from fishing on my boat today, a tire from a boat trailer flew off at 100 MPH and blew up the front of our van.

Car Crashing Lessons:
When you see a tire flying at you, stop.

Damn... and I thought pebbles from semi's tires were bad...

a similar thing happened to a tourbus on a major thoroughfare...

but the tire hit nothing in the road... despite several good bounces...
I saw it roll and bounce off into what appeared to be an empty parking lot...

I didn't see much after that, because:

I was riding my bicycle in the right-hand, paved shoulder,
of 1 foot wide when it happened... with a 1/2 foot tall concrete curb to my right...
and the bus to my left...

The tire went off to the left...

there was another tire... on my side that was looking very... wobbly...

I nearly pissed my pants trying to figure out if I should pass the bus,
stop in the shoulder, or get up on the curb and into the grass...

even though the bus had slowed down,
I figured any tire to come off would still bounce right over the curb...

so I slowed down, and the bus drive turned into the parking lot to get their tire back.

probably shoulda gotten on the grass and hauled ass with the bike on foot...

Man, that's epic! I definitely would have hit the grass and run for it lol.

the parking lot was that of my dad's former employer...

who laid him off after the company was sold off in pieces.
