No hats, no sunglasses, no hoodies

That is the sign on the door at the library I'm sitting in. Yet I'm wearing sunglasses and a hat and no one has said anything. Must be because my hat says Ft. Hood Police.

Thats nothing, a Library in the UK just made the headlines for hiring bouncers to protect the staff and enforce the rules with 'Unruly children'

Will it be another hypocrisy where some groups are immune to the law/rules in the name of political correctness ? If I was planning to commit any crime I would wear a Hijab.

I can understand sunglasses and hats, but exactly what security risk do hoodies pose? A pocket to steal books? It's not like any student with a bookbag couldn't do the same.. That and as far as I know most libraries have detectors at the front as well..

Well, not talking about my country, but guessing not all have the guts to avoid double standards where on the one hand slight paranoia requires security measures but on the other hand political correctness does double standards about what's dangerous and whatnot.

My sunglasses are prescription, as I do not make much money, I had a choice; prescription sunglasses or regular specs. I work nights, but my eyes are sensitive to light. So everytime there is an oncoming car I am blinded without sunglasses, and if their headlights are particularly bright, or god forbid they turn off their brights ever I am especially blinded. So I chose sunglasses. Which means I am wearing them all the time. Of course, the fact I can stare at a woman's breasts and ass without getting caught sweetened the deal.


At any rate, I feel that signage is ridiculous. It's not like there has been an onslaught of people terrorizing the town wearing hoodies.

Also, what about the fact that I was left alone presumably because I was wearing a police hat? Without visiting the library often, I can not tell you if that us really why, our if they are just lax in the rules. But I didn't see anyone else wearing hats or sunglasses.

Hoodies are banned in many places for the simple reason they're frequently used to avoid being identified on CCTV footage when committing crimes. Same reason you cant wear motorbike helmets in shops, banks, etc

Much as I hate the CCTV culture in the UK, the sad fact is it is necessary because of all the scum, not just shoplifting but also on the streets, car crime, muggings, assaults, antisocial behavior like harassing & intimidating people.

You might think your hoodie a fashion thing, being rebellious, wannabe gangster badass or whatever. Remember the swastika was around for thousands of years before the Nazis used it but now it is only associated with Nazism & racism, in the same way Hoodies have been around of decades but now are associated with criminal scum regardless of if you are guilty of anything. Would you wear a swastika ? If the answer is NO then dont wear a hoodie either.
