My old Frontera was more of a jeep than a truck and it did look awesome
Best thing was you could strip it down in a few minutes, remove the roof, back screen, side windows etc
Worse bit was when you stripped it down you had to leave the removable parts at home and the weather in the UK is very changeable, I got caught out 20 miles from home when the heavens opened, trust me when I say driving a convertible in heavy rain is no fun lol
Pffft, a good truck is a good truck. Doesn't matter who makes it. I'm not a truck racist.

It's all about who has the biggest toys. American men need to compensate for their faults somehow, and they think being able to tow several tons with their truck is the best way to do that. That, and compact cars can't hold many of the...ahem, bigger...Americans comfortably anymore.

i think it might be the latter cause if i want to compensate for all my faults, i would buy a fast car
Compact cars do not have enough leg or head room. While comfort is definitely a big issue. So is safe driving. Sitting uncomfortably behind the wheel for long periods of time can cause safety hazards. But those would be the lease of my concerns. The bigger issue is that with some small cars, there is so little leg room that my legs tend to wedge against the wheel, making it difficult to drive. Too little headroom means that you are going to have to seriously hunch over to be able to see out your windshield. Aside from the discomfort cause you to fatigue at a much higher rate, it's an even bigger problem when the sun is bright and in your face. More often than not, I'm unable to use a vizor because doing so wholly obstructs my view. Can't drive if you can't see.
There are certainly cars that are big enough. But the added advantage of a truck is the ability to haul things without having to beg a friend. Need a new couch? No problem, fits right there in the bed. I happen to need to buy some new mattresses and will need to dispose of my old ones. Will be so much easier if I have a truck, than a car. I will also be moving at some point in my life. The objective is to do so ASAP. Again, infinitely easier and less costly with a truck.
Another advantage is that with the Labor Day fires, a lot of my friends are having to move, buy new furniture, etc. With a truck, I'd be able to help them with their needs more so than just providing a bit of extra muscle.
A crew cab truck is exactly what I need.

y'know... just because people accept that there are many logical reasons you need a truck, does not mean they wont mock you for it...
While many small cars have limited leg/head space, not all small cars are that way.
