Re: Stargate tribute at Grammy Awards

Indeed, I can thank a french Stargate site to have provided the link to this video, I was sleeping when Grammy awards were broadcast, due to time zone differences.

StarGate The Next Generation :smt043

Maybe in several years when the failure of SGU has faded and a new generation of viewers can to introduced to a remake of the original concept, until then I fear the franchise is shelved

Re: Stargate tribute at Grammy Awards

One event that would make it happening more likely, not that that event itself is likely, is if the TV show business managed to adapt to and embrace the interconnected world, rather than thinking they can stick to the same styles of production and distribution as they had pre-fast-internet. Especially on science fiction productions... Its far more common for watchers of such to have good internet and computer knowledge than in the average soapy comedy audience. Thus, when they delay distribution to small parts of the world first, they effectively loose possible earnings from international audiences since those instead of waiting decide to download freely, without any money going to the producers.

But such a revolution will probably take years yet to come... They're not particularly into the times, those producers...

Re: Stargate tribute at Grammy Awards

Look at Sanctuary for a show that connected well with the audience.
But I think you are referring to the use of social media? For instance, official Facebook pages of characters without references to it being a television show (like OMG, is Serena really real? - Gossip Girl).

Funniest example; How I Met Your Mother. Barney's Blog, for instance. 'The character' keeps a blog, of which not even all entries are referred to in the show, but which is quite amusing. During the show, references were made to various websites as well, which the network really created. (e.g. TedMosbyisaJerk.com, Barney's Video Resume and the aforementioned Barney's Blog)

Re: Stargate tribute at Grammy Awards

Not social media no... More in their general distribution.

So long as shows are released slowly to only limited parts of the world, often with limits on the when as well, the rest of the world will download.

Ah, that. You are an advocate of a global movie/tv industry, as opposed to the local versions.
Makes sense, given the availability of satellite/cable and worldwide access to television in general.

As a 'downloader' I agree, I watch very little on TV and download most of what I watch, not to scam anyone but out of convenience to watch when I want, and because US shows are often delayed coming to the UK by several months.

Downloading is slow, it can take me 3 hours to get an episode on day of release ( faster later when more have it on there drives to share ).

If I could subscribe to a single website and pay a small reasonable fee for fast download of episodes of various series regardless of production company ( like I-Tunes but for TV ), then I would do that. Im guessing many others would too.

Re: Stargate tribute at Grammy Awards

For you its only a few months, mezzanine... In norway, if they appear at all, it is at the earliest six months late, usually a year or more. Right now, the main state-run TV channel has two episodes of Game of thrones available online for streaming, and then only after 2100 hours.

We ourselves don't own a TV, and we see no reason to get one. If we're to get another screen, it'll be another monitor for the computer, not a TV.

Well if you have so much entertainment in your life you dont want a TV I envy you, if you dont have a TV just because the good shows are not available in your country I would say buy one, download stuff and watch it off USB sticks like I do, movies especially but also some TV shows are far better on a big screen with proper sound ( not silly little PC speakers ).

Friend of mine in work went to Norway on holiday last year and loved it, went out island hopping looking for Whales, watching the northern lights and even went on a Husky Sled ride. Im not much of a traveler but Norway is one of the few places I would like to visit.

Re: Stargate tribute at Grammy Awards

our 22ish inch PC monitor is more than sufficient. Also, if we buy a TV and do not actively seal the antennae connection shut and prove we've done that, we'll have to pay the equivalent of 3-400 euros to the state-run channel each year. Considering our rather limited economy, the investment of such an amount as a decent TV costs, combined with that annual cost, makes it not worth it. Not even close to worth it.

400 Euros for a TV license !!! thats shocking, we pay about £125 in the UK, I dont mind that as what little I watch on TV tends to be BBC, things like Luther and Sherlock recently but they make some class shows every year.
