Re: Game of Thrones
It was most promising...

"Great holy armies shall be gathered and trained to fight all who embrace evil. In the name of the gods, Browsers shall be changed to carry the internet out amongst the peoples and we will spread Firefox to all the unbelievers. The power of the Firefox will be felt far and wide and the wicked users of IE shall be converted to use the true browsers."

Re: Game of Thrones
I thoroughly enjoyed the tv adaptation of the first book in the series (Game of Thrones). I always thought it would be quite a tough job to adapt it for the screen as much of the book focuses on politics and intrigue; i always thought that the sneakiest and most devious characters simply would not translate well and therefore suffer through a loss of the narrative....i was certainly pleasantly surprised!
Everyone played their roles superbly and exactly the characters who i thought would cause the problems (Joffrey Baratheon, Lord Varys, Petyr Baelish) were actually the most hideously enjoyable characters a Fantasy tv series has ever brought to life! Of course it would not be fair to let go unmentioned Sean Bean's brilliant portrayal of Ned Stark regardless of the character being an entirely sympathetic one and so not, perhaps, as hard to script as the others i've mentioned.
The two who stole the show for me though were (in second place) SG's very own Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo; a very tough role to play as there is very little actual dialogue and the character is more a representation of the culture of the Dothraki than a pivotal story developer, the storyline (without spoiling) goes to his female counterpart while Drogo remains as simply a template for the people his female "inherits". In first place though comes Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister. Anyone who has read the book will agree how so very complicated this character is yet Dinklage plays up to every whim in the storyline as though its second nature to him. He accurately portrays the imp Lannister in such a way as to first have the watcher thoroughly despise him but then slowly come to develop an understanding of the greyer aspects of one's life; the aspects where a simply good vs evil definition is verily denied!
I have not yet watched either of the two new episodes but i have noticed they are still calling it Game of Thrones. I guess this is an executive position, i would personally have rather they called it A Clash of Kings. My one and only negative critique.

Re: Game of Thrones
not giving it its proper name (clash of kings) is mostly about catering to the common public rather than just the readers...

Aye, that's what i meant by executive position - its the right decision but not for me
I guess also that the tv series is not following the book to the letter. Some things are happening (or presented to be happening) a little out of order but that problem often exists when books are transcribed to the screen, its certainly no biggy.

Re: Game of Thrones
they're doing a far better job at it than most tv adaptions do. The fact that several books worth of story has been released after the current production helps, as then they can avoid the mistakes that mess up future story elements.

George R.R. Martin (the author) is heavily involved in production of the series (credited as an executive producer and wrote at least one ep in series 1)
also, season 3 confirmed! woooo!

Re: Game of Thrones
we know... but unlike a certain other production with similar setup (legend of the seeker) the author is actually enforcing things... by the time that was (thankfully) cancelled, it had been broken beyond fixing. Too many things were changed that made plot from future books impossible to implement...
anyways, the fact that season 3 is confirmed after only two released episodes shows just how well-liked game of thrones is...

Re: Game of Thrones
I actually really enjoyed Legend of the Seeker.
GoT has not let down thus far.. the TV series has brought a unique take on the books. Some things I would have done differently but ultimately I can't complain. Keeping up the standards really.

Re: Game of Thrones
we enjoyed parts of that too, semper... it just had too many of those one-in-a-million (or whatever number) situations popping up without the mockery inherent to such chances as be present on the discworld... if they had skipped that, and kept a bit truer to the books, it would've been a great show...
anyways, it'll be nice to (relatively) soon see the third GoTs2 episode...

an ok episode.. I'm excited to see if Arry letting the long haired prisoner go comes back to help or haunt her. he seems to be unique, especially compared to who he shared the cage with.

**Filtered** this show.
**Filtered** it.
**Filtered** it even harder.
**Filtered** it till it bleeds.
Continue **Filtered**.
I hate how this show keeps making me want more, but decides to slap me down and say "Now child, you know you need to wait one more week before trying to enjoy it again!"

*laughs at noobert while sneaking a blade down along his spine*
you were saying?
excellent episode... noted a couple of differences from the book, but only minor details as usual... too bad there's another week to wait... we'd almost be tempted to picking up the books again while we wait...
