Ah...

I can start by saying you're not going to be making games. Just accept that. Practice the basics. They should cover everything in the course, I hadn't programmed before starting my university course and I got through no problem.

http://www.codeproject.com/

Has some tutorials and stuff for computer programming. I'd recommend learning C++ as a language first. It isn't the simplest language by a long long way but you learn a lot about how the computer interprets code and have to keep track of your memory management yourself which a lot of other languages do for you.

Is a good C++ IDE to work with

Re: Computer Software Engineer

software is one of things that you can learn on your own, without a teacher. Look for youtube videos that show you the basics of some popular languages. once you know one language, you know pretty much them all.

Also, remember its an engineering degree, so what you know will not determine if you get a job or not. So only do it before you have some contacts or if you know you are good enough to get a job after

have fun
ask me anything, i shell provide you free knowledge

'Engineer' suggests its a high degree education, which requires knowledge before hand and you would likely have to do some heavy tests if you haven't got the papers for it.. (other educations in the same field)

You sure its an engineers degree ?
You got a link to an overview of your education ?

Also, when it concerns ICT, you generally have 2 directions: software development (coder), or hardware/operating system (ICT specialist specializing in either networking or operating systems).

Software engineer is slightly different to a mechanical engineer. It's more focused along designing a good system and learning good programming practices rather than learning a particular language.

It's the degree I studied and am currently studying (Because apparently the rest of the world doesn't do honours degrees only in South Africa where our government is lowering the academic bar year by year to make it look like they're improving)

If you want to do a fun language do java, a lot of 'real' programmers don't like it but I for one really enjoy using java, it makes magic happy.

Ahh, cool, thanks
What you describe sounds like a known ICT education you got here called ICT business logistics.
More aimed on project leading and business information systems development.

Java is a good start.
New software designers tend to work with the MVC principals and OOP programming from the get go.
Java has a lot of support and thousands of tutorials and what not.
Hell, even the little car that drives around on mars runs on java haha.

You never struck me as a technical guy Roket, make sure you've made up your mind before you start squandering a lot of time and money on something you'll wont like.

What are your goals you want to achieve with it ? any certain profession in mind ?
