Windows 8

I'm thinking about upgrading to it from Win7 but i'm not sure any user experiences with 8 here? If so how is it working on a normal Desktop/Laptop no touchscreen.

Re: Windows 8

Works well enough, but the real coolness is when you use a touchscreen, of course. :)
Otherwise it works fine, decent on stability and such.. just limited apps-wise for now, but that will soon change - lots of things in the works.

This is the downfall for new release OS's, programmers need to reiterate their products again to allow for win 8 support.

From my deduction (reading copious reviews and such) win 8 will be a media oriented OS (looks like it to). It's tablet support seems to be its only upside imo, the menu screen/background is ergonomically crap and ugly as hell.
Although it's much cheaper than its predecessors (microsoft first!).
And yes, companies will always claim their products are faster (8 sec boot time for win 8 apparently), this will probably happen for about a week, and only if you have a decent set up, from what I can recall to get the logo, laptop manufacturers had to have an instant on < = 2 secs.

So if you have a tablet, use it, if not I would wait for another year or so, or just not get it at all. There will probably be bugs everywhere and very little support (actually from what I heard they cut a fair bit of stuff out from win 8).
If you want it cuz it looks cool I'm guessing there are about 10 different transformation packs out on the interwebs already.

This will probably be one of the 'you get what you pay for' things.

Upgrade from W7: only 15€. ;) Not expecting much in the way of support for a home user. :P

Re: Windows 8

It seems to be an updated form of the Windows Mobile OS, expanded for use on larger systems like tablets and laptops.

Difficult to get used to, but still better than Vista. It's a decent cheap option for someone who wants to upgrade without shelling out for Win7.

Yes, Win7 is an awesome OS, imo.. W8 really needs to prove itself before it becomes a candidate to switch a fully functioning PC to it, permanently. :D

This is the thing, I don't think it will ever be one, I reckon this is an OS which is similar to a DLC or side quest. It's not a major release but more of extensive functioning of a certain computer. Hopefully win 9 will grow some balls.

As for a win 7/8 expense comparison, there is always the option of just downloading 7 freezies, which isn't hard at all to do now.

Mhm. i'd consider a dual boot with w8 but it's just not worth it, still might grab a copy for 15 though, just for the future...

I'm using Win8 for a parallel use on my Mac. It takes up less space than Win7, and if I tire of it, I'll go back to XP. :smt110

xp? lol At least you didn't say vista.

Give me some credit. I'd rather run XP, which I already own, than shell out for Win7 for a simple virtual program. If I end up hating Win8, I'd wait to buy Win7 until I buy a new (possibly Windows) laptop/desktop.

Re: Windows 8

LOL ! Why are any of you still using Vista? *Facepalm*

W7 is a very good operating system, by any standards. Even we Linux-geeks love it.

I have an iMac, Linux server and a W7 computer. And absolutely love the W7.

It's not time yet to upgrade to W8. Still a lot of work to be done. It's interesting though for sure.

Re: Windows 8

Alright seeing all the reactions i'm sticking with W7 >_>

I'l wait it out till sometime next year and then see how W8 does. Maybe Microsoft will release an option to take the metro skin away if your using a desktop/laptop with no touchscreen wich i highly doubt but meh you can alway hope.
