Ascension question!

I am quickly approaching my 17th ascension, my question is the following:

I am a tolah and always have been throughout all my ascensions, when I ascend I am given the option to change from a tolah to the alternatives.

If on my next ascension I select another ascension path, will I remain at the 17th ascension or will it reset me to the first again?

It may be a stupid question but this far in to the unkown I want to be 100% certain

You cannot change your 'path' during the ascension track. Picking something else will not keep you stuck at a level, it will have no effect whatsoever.

You *can* change your race on Ascended (that should change your Ascended race in Main).
