It seems to me that I'm not going to get anywhere with this on my own. I seem to be fighting a losing battle out there trying to keep ascension related topics taboo, as was always intended.

Thing is, it's a tough job reading everything and removing ascension topics but don't get me wrong; if it is what you guys actually want, it is my duty and my pleasure to serve (get's all Goa'uld for old time's sake). However if not enough of you are really bothered about what is said in main forum; why are these forums hidden?

It takes someone a job to accept new members onto this forum and it seems to me a waste of time if they can discuss it outside the ascension forum anyhow; so you see my dilema.

On the one hand i don't mind doing my job, but only when my job is actually what you guys want lol?

So anyways, your opinions on the matter will be greatly appreciated.

I'll aim to close the poll in one week's time (27th Feb) and make a conclusion for this thread here telling those un-ascended how you ascended feel about the issue and the lengths to which things can be discussed outside in the main forum.

Bear in mind please that (whilst some do not) I consider "shell account" discussions to be fundamentally ascension discussions. It would be appreciated if any replies could somehow give me idea of your thoughts on "shell account" related topics too.

Lastly, thank you to anyone and everyone who takes the time to offer opinion. It is afterall why we have this hidden forum.

i'm in between Very and Moderately, like there most things about ascention should be kept off the main forum but certain things about the shell account should be aloud to help people who are a bit nervous and feel like there in the dark when ascending if you know what i mean

I think if it all wasn't such a secret then many more would be inclined to ascend.

Maybe a help/user guide when you get up there would be good too. I know of alot of people who have ascended, and still have no idea of what the hell is going on when they get up there. Its all very complicated and hard to adjust to if you are expecting something resembling Main in the slightests.

All that aside. I think I would have rathered know more about just what I was getting myself into before I took the plunge and ascended. I didn't consider all my options because I didn't know there were actually options to consider. That aside, I think most people are well aware now that they have the choice of leaving some of their goods behind... but still. Give them some info. They deserve it after all the hard work they have put into their main accounts.

I belive that a few things about shell should be allowed to be mentioned as well as a few of the more basic questions about first ascending to be answered. For example the new race names and titles should be aloowed to be mentioned about the shells, as should the number of G&R they need to first ascend as well as how to get into the G&R ranks, beyond that I dont belive there should be to much information available, at least not in one post, if there are smaler bits of information around the forums then so be it, at least people would have to work at it and look around a lot to find more out.

I voted moderately:

I believe any talk/info regarding anything in the ascension game should be for the assended forum only.

Likewise, I do not believe that 'guides' on how to ascend and what is required to ascend should be allowed. People should get there on their own without having the foreknowledge of how many UU/attack turns/trained troops they need to have, and therefore being abl to pre-prepare their account before they even reach 1000 G&R!

Not bothered about the shell accounts - they are part of main and so, in my opinion, should be open to be freely discussed within the main forum.

I pretty much second what Wolf said. I would prefer that the details of specifically ascension server "stuff" remain closed to those who haven't ascended.

However, I have long disagreed with Goo's belief that the discussions relating to Shell accounts is an ascended forum-only discussion. After all, Forum renamed the race forums for each race with pre and post-ascension races. As an Ancient, when I go to the Agard/Ancient forum, I expect to be able to discuss any detail about an Ancient account just as I did an Asgard account when I was an Asgard. Since the shells are on the Main server, I don't see how you can say that discussion on them should be limited to only Ascended server discussion.

Within my alliance, I have chosen to not tell the details of ascension to any of our non-ascended members. What the races are, what ascension is like, etc I have kept to myself. But I tell them flat out that their new Main race will loose the bonus that they have come to embrace and love, and that the shells are all the same, and that once they start ascending they had best be prepared to continue until they've reached the top or else it's simply not worth the trouble. I tell them this without feeling like I have betrayed any sacred knowledge. But Goo, when you speak on the forums you seem to believe that even telling that much is wrong. And I can't agree with you on that.

I appreciate your work and I support you in keeping the details of ascension secret. But I believe that you are wrong to try to keep even Main related details under lock and key. And I acknowledge that it might well be impossible to draw the lines in a way that will please everyone. But that's just one man's opinion.

Out of my own experience i literally run for all info on the ascended server i coudl get before my first ascension. Well lets say i had a completly wrong picture back then. But that was such a fun not knowing what would happen,. something that was not otucalculated to the maximum.

IT is far better if there is nearly no information on the ascended server here. Yes we will tell them what they need to ascend and what the names of the ascended races are and what it means if people are a living god.

game experience wise i would say you would have to find out and take the plunge into the deep thats basicly what makes it appealing.
I choose moderate think shell account talks should be allowed since they are on main server.

i couldnt care less what people know. they are already disadvantaged ascending so much after many people anyway. i dont particularly see why they should have such a steep learning curve as many of us have had to be honest

if someone wants to get info on it then they should be able to look it up. if they dont then they arent compelled to

Thank you all for responses so far. I think that from what is said above the outcome will likely be a blanket taboo on discussions relating to ascension features and mechanics.

Yeah, anyhoo.. this is entirely why i posted this, my personal opinion is outlined but in no way do you have to agree with it.

All we are trying to do here is set some president for the future, afterall it's just a way to make the modding job easier really

Our jobs are so much easier when there is no confusion as to what should and should not be allowed.

i think we should allow them to know some stuff just not enough to give them a good head start i found it funny after playing for 6months ascending and feeling like a total n00b again.give them enough for them to consider ascending but not enough so they know exactly what to do once they get there


shell disscussion is alright in my book the shell account is in MAIN so why not talk about it in main forums if you will look at the race boards each one had the ascended version ie Goa'uld/System Lord

Honestly, I have talked to people that aren't ascended and they seem to know almost everything about it.
I feel that some people that are in alliances in main and have forums might be discussing things with people in their alliance to better prepare them for ascending.
I feel that there are people out there that wish to guide their fellow alliance members so that they may grow stronger in ascension as a whole.
If they are going to do this then it is going to create an unbalancing effect to those that are playing as lone woves or are members of alliances that do not share this information.

Should there be punishments for people posting about it on the forum?
Yes, the threads should be deleted and if the person then continues to violate the agreement they agreed to when they ascended then they should be suspended from the forum.
If they continue to do so after their suspension is up then they should be banned.

I have been accused of this same thing in the past but I have never posted about ascension on the forum, only the shell accounts which is something that can be gotten by intel reports.

I do not think that people discussing main accounts should be reprimanded for anything as those accounts are not in ascension.

As long as the details of ascension itself are not being openly discussed then I see no problem at all with anything.

I do discuss some of the ascension stuff. IE one of my officers asked me why I bank so much naq just to get 1k of a weapon as compared to the equivalant nonascend. I say it cost me so much more to do so and give a general comparsion like my best attack weapon cost more than double what yours is (or whatever) So in order to get the same amount I have to have more.

personally, dont ask me how i knew all about ascesncion way before i did it (reminds me of my junior high sex ed class) but it is nice to have some mystery involved...i would have preffered not knowing its much more fun that way
