September 2011. Around a month of downtime, 2 months from start to finish.

there was a massive one last year (i think) after which the game seemed to have a much smaller userbase. (to me at least)

This is quite an outage. I don't remember one as long thinking back over the last seven years. Hopefully the updates/maintenance will be worth the wait.

It was during our war...lots of people on both sides quit, at least for a little while, because of it.

MAny people quit the game in that downtime. I remember some days it would work, then it wuld be right back down, but when it came on, the farming was insane
