I've been playing this game for quite a while now... but what is the point of this whole merc technologie in combination with your officers?
What are the benifits...?

you can hold more mercs (a base of 25% of trained army) if u hav more tech upgrades (4-5 depending on your race). each aditional upgrade gives 10%addition to a base of 25%. the cost is variable- the higher the up u hav the more it will cost per upgrade. the more traied soldiers and supersols u hav, the more mercs u r allowed to hav.

some commanders use merc transfers to give resources to officers to get ss (probably market ss).
