Alright...you know a brother is being forced to post a general summation and then edit after. Touche Emma...posted in the same minute...well played
The point of the market:
The market is a safe place for you to trade with no risk of losing your good to another player. Sometimes when trading with another player they can agree to a certain deal, and when you send something first they can withhold their end. Thereby taking your goods and giving nothing.
How do I use the ingame market?
You use the ingame market to trade your goods(naq, UU, or turns) for an equivalent amount of another good. Once you have Market SS(needed to trade on the in-game market) trading your turns for the same number of turns is a bad idea(just becasue it doesn't make sense to use a market turn to trade for the same good/product)...so trade for what you need.
In order to use the ingame market in the first place you need to have "Market SS"; which is Market Supporter Status, or Market Bonuses. To get market ss you need to have the required naq, uu, or turns to trade for it.
When you have the proportions you need to trade, right now:
Current Exchange rates:
1,290,000,000 Naquadah for 780 Turns for 9,100 Miners/Lifers for 10USD....you will be able to trade for Market SS, and one you have market SS you can use the ingame market.
How do I know if I have the right amount?
You have to trade for a multiple of 2 for 1/2 market SS to use the ingame market. Why? well....(multiple 2)(1/2 market SS)=1 market SS. That means that if you wanted it right now you need double of whatever you see in the "Exchange" drop down menu. Why double? Goes back to (2)(1/2)=1. So, you'll need 2,580,000,000 naq or 1560 turns or 18,200 UU to get market SS. You can also use the "Exchange" drop down menu to change the proportions of what you want to give or 'mix-and match'. Therefore, to get Market SS you could do the above or use the other avaliable combinations there to get Market SS. NOTE: if you want Market SS, the "1/2 Market..."option must be in the "For" drop down menu and selected as multiple of 2.
Ok, I have market SS, now what?
Now you you can trade your resources for the resources you need. Following the same process outlined above, except in the "FOR" drop down menu you will have what you want, instead of another 1/2 Market SS. You can now take full advantage of the "multiple" field. You can trade for as little as 1/10 or as high as 5x the posted rates(seen above in blue). It's effective for newer players to be able to make trades for fractions of a multiple, so that they will be able to use the market, and the distance between the larger players and the smaller ones won't get as big as it could without it(meaning that even if your starting out, you can use the market, it won't just be for those with a lot of resources to use and can be used now for as little as 129,000,000 naq, 78 turns, or 910UU:under multiple 1/10).
Notes on ingame trading:
If you are planning to do a big trade, set you realm alert to critical. There are pple who see open naq and attack for it, as is expected of anyone. Setting to critical is more of a preventative measure if you are attacked. If you plan to spend the spoils(ie. naq) in may places, work out how much you want to enter into the field before hand so you 're not sitting out with your purse open. All you'll need to do once worked out is enter details in the fields and get them. Reduces the chances of being attacked as you won't be calculating how may mothership shields you want wtih 1.29 billion naq, when it's out in the open, for example.
General info. about Market SS/Bonuses:
You need to trade for a multiple of 2 of 1/2 market SS/bonus to use the market(unless you are ascended), however since you don't know about the market I will assume you are not(don't ask about ascended; looks behind him for GOO and wolves)
Having Market SS will not allow you to trade with other players. It will only allow you to trade on the ingame market, and I believe(not sure if it's even been tried) you still should be able to accept incoming trades with the market broker, but since you can't send anything to another player I doubt it would happen, unless you give real goods in person for someone to send something, but even then in the incoming broker tade you nee to give something to get something else(from my understanding).
Once you have full SS[given after you meet certain criteria and choose to accept changes, or if you have purchased it(through site donation, located in a link at the bottom of your main page->Command Centre, and done using a credit card or paypal)] you can do more (ie. use the market broker...also located in the market page). It's a good read, I suggest reading it to learn about that component of the market.
With Full SS you can use the Black Market(becasue of the basic problem of not being able to send to other players if you don't have full SS), located in this fourm off the main forum page to trade with other players. Rely heavily on a players trade feedback thread. People can take your things and you get nothing, so place your trust wisely, and rely on the comments of past players. For example, trading 15K UU with someone who is new to the forum, has no trade feedback thread might not be the best idea. Smaller increments might be better so that the risk of loss is lowered.

longer answer, when you ascend you get $$ ss for free, so it supreseedes the market ss, but you will still have the market ss functionality and more.
