Well, instead of training your untrained units, you can just buy attack and defence mercs, this way, if you dont have enough units, you just buy some mercs.
Cant be bothered logging in with my full name- so i shortened it :D

it is just the point not to stop after reading the first 2 threads about mercs but check them all...

Mercs are the same in strength as 'normal' trained units, but much weaker than 'super' trained units. They require weapons in order to deal damage, and their only benifit is that they are cheap for the short term.
In the long run, Super Soldiers are a much better deal.

Lol, that is funny because in every single UM thread i've ever read we say the exact opposite.
Buying an selling mercs (Untrained mercs incl.) gives you a loss of 50%. Hardly a bonus :)

Actually a good idea may be to equip them with the weakest weapon possible so that they may deal marginal extra damage, but more importantly serve as sab and attack shields.

Weak weps used to be good for anti-sab protection, but I don't believe that works anymore.

Personally, I equip my mercs anyway. Since i lack the upgrades to make them an effective meat-shield, I figure the couple extra mill of damage they do is worth it. But Supers come first. :)

I use a bunch of mercs because they are cheap and easy to replace. I also make sure to keep a couple thousand extra mercs just in case they start getting killed off.

One dies, another one steps in his place. That way my stat's don't taper off as much if I get the random probe hit.
