Trawl the newbie help sections for help about the game however here is a little...
You attack people for Naq (to attack click battlefield, and go to a really really low page, like page 5000 or something) , you use this naq to buy upgrades and weapons, you attack with attack turns, you get 1 turn per every 30 mins, you have units, which you can train, 1 unit per weapon, spys dont use weapons. Everything costs Naq, and Unit production is very important as well, as the more units you have the more units you can train. Miners make Income, and this income give you naq every 30 mins as well.

Yeah, start by reading the stickies here in the FAQ section, there's lots of good stuff there. It might take some time to read it all, but you'll be much better off if you do.
Also, you can find people recruiting in the Recruitment section of the forums, down toward the bottom of the index. I'd aim for somebody can can boost your income 1-3 million / turn at first. That way you can have extra naq to spend, but you're not making so much that you constantly get attacked. Once you get your UP, defense, and covert up a bit, you can start aiming higher.
Just remember, your UP (unit production, how many untrained units you generate per day) is VERY important at first. Once you get bigger, you can go about aquiring extra units by trading or raiding, but for starters your UP is the only way you can get more troops.
