the arrays are the chance of actually getting the planet (i.e. their attack higher than the defense of the planet), not finding it. that i know for sure

as to after ascending not so sure, but i would think that u would since it's in ur part of the galaxy.

Why not, your UP goes "poof".

Keep in mind that after the initial flurry of exploration is done, many people will just steal other planets. It won't be nearly such a costly excercise to get new planets as it will be for the time being (although retaining said planets may be more of a challenge).

yeah it does. up to fourty tries before u can get one, so some poor unlucky fool is gona try his hardest to get one and not gona get it that way

yeah i have already told all my officers and friends, that if they find someone with one to let me know. I will pay good if I can steal that sucker from someone.

I belive Forum said 40 sightings, I read somewhere that in test someone sighted ~22 on one 24hour mission.

A few more hours and the first ones will be home, mine is schduled to arrive back at 20:37 and im sure more are to follow shortly after that...

The sightings thing: Like Gukumatz said, when the mothership comes back it will say it sighted XX possible planets. You should get a message in your inbox when the mothership arrives outlining the mission so you can understand it better.

As far as the topic starter's questions, I don't know. Guess we'll find out... when I sent my mothership out this time I didn't have any fleets purchased yet. I did purchase some shortly after though.

Ascending: Don't know on this one either. I didn't have any planets yet, and my mothership was still out looking. It DID bring one back though, even though I ascended while it was out looking. It still had all the hangar slots after I ascended, although this may have just been something that forum forgot to put in the code to erase.

Sightings is just that, how many the mothership saw. It comes back with just one if it brings one back at all. You can only have 10 additional planets anyway, so it may not be long before some people are full.

Then only question is, will they be able to keep those planets? Indeed, the Planet Wars have begun.
