How about we increase the benefit of planets by a LOT... (so they are worth while)
AND
have the ability to randomly booby trap some of them (at a large cost) so that if a mothership tries to steal it, it takes ouit the planet AND the mothership that tries to steal it...
This should make things more fun...
obviously the planets have to be randomly booby trapped otherwise people will just protect what they think is good.. So neither the defender or attacker knows which ones are protected... russian roulette for planets... )

ypu need more details. how are u propoing to makes planets worth the bonus? and the booby trap cant destroy the ms, severe damage yes but not make ms go bye bye
who needs submarines anyway, those little black boats just keep sinking under the water anyway.
all you really need is 40 defence structures on a planet and that'll deter most people
but nice idea i like it you just need to elaborate more
Edit: i just had a random thought on this subject, what if you could CONVERT your planet into a booby trap for a certain amount of naq depending on its size? it would keep the stats to lure victims but you wouldnt get the bonus from it. and instead of blowing up a mothership (as was sillyly suggested) how about it destroys a certain % of attacking crusers/satalites/etc. also depending on its size?
I dont see what is so silly about blowing up a mothership.... it happens all the time in movies.. you just build another one!
Its part of the price you pay for raiding planets... it might go well, it might not...
it gives a good reason for the output of planets to be increased (by x1000) what they are now and then they are the bait.

i second that.
I'd say depending on size there is a % of completely annihilating the MS.
you wouldn't be getting any benefit from that planet and would also not be able to abandon it without loosing your ms too (since trying to move it would destroy your ms).
with that in mind i don't see a reason for the booby trapping costing more than a few bil (since the planet doesn't do anything just lies around)

450million naq for a Mothership - I spent over 50billion on my Mothership before i ascended, and alot of people have spent ALOT more, and you want to just blow it up randomly? A little unfair if i do say so myself

we don't say it gets blown up just like that
we only say it disappears if you try to steal someones planet.
would be finally something that would affect everyone in an even way.
big players got a huge MS => big naq losses
small players MS are much weaker => less naq cost (but the same relative to economic capacity of big players)
you cant just blow up a ms thats not fair you could have like a booby trap strength the planet will always blow up but if the ms defence is bigger than the booby trap it doesnt get completely destroyed just loose how ever much % difference there is between them

I love the "that's not fair" argument.
but if you got a sun exploding/imploding, the shields won't help you.
I think this is a wonderful idea and would help to make the raiding planets business more interesting. (and finally a suggestion that is balanced with respect to strong and weak players)
and well, you don't have to steal planets, it's your choice. but if you want to take the risk then just go on and possibly loosing your whole MS (remember, there would be a % chance of that happening.)
you could say tiny has 5%, very small 10%, small 15%...(then, either it explodes or you find out it didn't work but you still have to throw away the planet because of the risk involved in running it)

1) If a planet blows up, face it - your mothership is toast... Think about it.... you are using some sort of tractor beam to drag the planet around, if the bloody thing blows up, the explosion is going one place, and one place only.... right up your ass...
2) Yes... it is an update that will affect all players equaly... what ever you have spent on your mothership is what you can afford... so you can afford to rebuild it... big or small players alike.
3) Not fair? Well, like every one said, if you dont like the heat, get out of the kitchen. Its like going skydiving... yeah, its not fair if your parachute fails... but its also the risk... if you dont think the risk is worth it, dont do it....
4) Details... I think you should be able to invest the naq in the planet as a booby trap and set how it exactly appears... Ie +800 UP, 2,500,000 defence. Thats the bait, through some sort of holographic generatior.. if someone tries to steal that one, 100% they are toast... the chance part comes in when you have a few planets, its up to them to try and pick the safe one... just like russian roulette. Once you have set up a planet like this you cant abandon it, and also when it explodes it does a random amount of damage to your other planets (there will be some big chunks of rock flying around...)
5) Like mentioned before, lets turn up what the planets do a bit - make them worth stealing... make them worth having.. spending naq on a defence planet that gives you about 100th of what spending it the normal way is a bit worthless... or investing in a income planet that will take the next year to pay off.... hmmmm... hello!!!

Ahh, I didnt make myself clear - you get one of those very valuable +10,000 attack planets and install a holgraphic generator that makes it look like a 800+ UP planet.... You also mine out a huge chamber and pack it with a few Naquida enhanced nukes, with a gravitational wave detector as a fuse.
Now if someone spies it, they will see a 800+ planet. If they try and move it, they will get- ... well, what you get if you eat 20 very hot curries in 2 hours... a very strong burning sensation around their ring....

I dont see why there should be a limit, but you are limited to 10 planets, so if you make 5 of them boobytraps, you only have room for 5 real ones.. remember you cant get rid of them, without blowing up your own mothership - the only way to move them is to use a mothership... and if you do, they go bang...
