Just wondering is it even worth it to have a planet, it takes to much to build up the defence and it just ends up getting stolen anyways, or is there something im missing about it?

Meh, unless it's a UP planet don't even bother to build up the defense.
In other words, no, your not missing anything... planets are fairly underpowered.

Defense planets give you the ability to never have 0 defense. This comes in handy when somone is trying to assasinate your spies, since they will never get their strike bonus and their assasins will continue to die as they go hunt your spies.

Strike plantes are fantastic for raiding since you can avoid repairs completely.

I still can't think of much of a use for covert and income planets though.

First, you need a mothership.
Second, you need to purchase fleets (for option B).

How to get planets:

Option A: Send your mothership to 'search' using the "send mothership to explore for 24hrs" button.

Option B: Find a player with a planet and choose to conquer planet.
Then it becomes a question of whether or not your fleet power beats the planets defenses.

but the update makes it so you can have 9 planets each with 50bil def and your def rank will be aroun 30k or so... cause you with no base def, maeks planets add 0 def, so you will have 0 overall def.

Build defenses before doing anything, otherwise someone is gonna steal it. Defenses's cost depends on planet's size.
