I'm starting to get rather displeased with the way the security is increasing, When I started to play you could have a window from each tab on the command tab open and do alot of management that way, this got killed becourse somehow someone used it as an exploid I guess. To log in you typed in your username/password, and you could even have windows remember, easy and fast, now I need to type in user name casesensitive, Email adress case sensitive appearntly, Password casesensitive, and a randowm number, to verify that I'm not a bot. This goes for the ascended server too. many of these "improvements" have been made to stop abuse of some sort, but when will enough be enough.
Pressently I use more time loggin into my account then I actually do managing it. I understand the need to keep it cheat free and Abuse free, but come on, those that find and use these workaround to the systems aren't really stopped at this point, they just suffer a minor sitback and will have to research for the next exploit.
I, as a standard player, that have been here for years, just keep getting blocked from entering the game. The random number actually made me wonder if I would continue anymore.
What I'm asking is less regit logon procedures, let us numb skulls play the game without having to worry if the page loads in time before the Random number changes.
Am I the only one here, maybe I should just be moving on.
Think about it, where will it all end? Maybe the security is okay with having to download a userclient to verify the connection between you and your account? Maybe that woun't be enough either.
Better login procedures

your thinking about quitting because it takes an extra 5 seconds to loggin lol either that or your a very slow typer
also you say you have been here for years
can i point out this game is only about 1.5 years old

Okay years migth be overstated, but since april 2005 atleast, my statistic record goes back that much at least.
As for the so extra 5 seconds, well yes I don't really type that slow, still some extra 5 seconds, to type in the extra 50 characters I need now plus the random number, but that's in good ligthing conditions.
Now I actally needs to concentrate on doing the logon , watch the typeing, verify the correctness, as the start page takes some 30 seconds to reload, and up to 1 minute in bad cases. Add to the eqations that my keyboard is starting to get a bit sticky (labtop), so on average I now use some 45-50 seconds to logon 6 times a day, wait for loading of secrurity and verify cookies to load takes some 50% of my game time on average.
I can't image a best seller game having a 50% load time vs interaction time. That's is the main factor in my considerations to simple stop playing, note that I have adapted to the new procedure as they have come along, but as I said:
When will enough be enough?
With downloading of 5 mb's of verifing cookies to enter the account? I see this coming within 1 year with current escalations.
And as this seems to be discusion base threads, why not state you point of view as in where would you draw the line and simply give up from the hassle of entering the game?

Okay, I feel like my point is being missed here, I can manage the extra "5" seconds, and I haven't got autocompletion to work with my standard XP IE browser.
My point is the level of complexety that in the past 6 months has been added to the logon procedure. It's rather alarming.
As I keep saying with the current rate within a year the logon procedure would include Username - password - Email address - random number - special SGW login thing - Clicking a target - sliding a scroller - verifing your browser settings and require you to use Mozilla 6.1 or above and open firewall at aport 23945 pick a number. This is a little exatriated, but not unlikely taken the progress to far into context.
So I ask where would you draw the line, at the browser requierements, OS requirement, downloading a specail client to verify you, where.
I can live with the extra "5" seconds, which on average is more like 30 to me. But I will at some point draw the line and say, it's the game is no longer worth the hassle.

This has been the only add-on to log-in security (and with them they have eliminated most of the other security hassles). The username isn't case sensitive (and I've heard the password is the same so I would hazard a guess that email is as well), nor do you need to type it all in (just the first letter will suffice). I think your worries about future modifications are just a little bit on the side of paranoia so I don't think you need to worry (well you will cos you're paranoid but others won't
).

i loggon like 10 times a day sometimes more
now its going to take like a min to loggin all those times together
and i actually stay logged in for more then 30 secs so i can do something otehr then bank
the time i take to loggin all those times is like less then 1% of the time i spend on the game

Quite handy
i find that the first letter and it will show you the username you want them click on it and there you go

I think we need more security. like having to send an email to forum evrytime we want to log in. he could set up a script that when he gets an email from an address with the subject "login" it sends a link back to the email to a confirmation page, where you have to enter in a multi digit code from a question (in jpeg form) like 3 = 3a+4ab^2-7 or some rediculously hard maths question. the pic should be like the new login color so pict readers can't get it. also script programs cant solve it anyways which afs mucho secority
There are some things in life money can't buy. For everything else, there's superior firepower.

Actually - you have also ALWAYS had to type in your email address too (since at least the second week sof teh game back in Feb 2005).
You talk about the level of complexity being added to login over the last six months - but given that since February 2005 you have always had to type in your username/email and password, the only thing that has actually been added is the password - a whole 3 digits!
I was against teh password at first because it precluded users from using their mobile phones to login - that has now been solved with teh latest update - nice one!

actually on my firefox when i open the sgw window it has my pass and email already in it and i only need to type 1 letter of my username for it to come up with the option of the whole thing making the old way quite a bit faster but not enough to make someone quit

firefox does that for me too. so removing the extra security isn't really necessary, at least not for me.

So to sum up what I read so far from you wise people out there is:
I'm paranoid, Granted. But being paranoid doesn't mean that you aren't watched closely....
The actual complexaty to login in has not triplede over the past year, only doubled, okay nice, if that isn't a contunieous thing.
I still play fast, I login - read mail if there - clean mail box - buy weapons - buy units (Buying stuff is going very fast now you can buy all units or weapons with one click on the page and a lot of "Tab'ing") - buy mothership stuff - buy UP's - exit. I interact some 2-3 seconds on every page, wait some 30 seconds for them to load and reload (when you press a build button the page reloads), so on average I wait for the page to load some 95% of the time I play.
This is very much on the edge as I from time to time (maybe 1 a week) take 30 minutes writting a mail, + the extra 30 seconds to rewrite it becourse I've been logged out during my writting, that'll go away when I try sending it.
There is options to encrease the sec level of loggin in, look at Kerrus Magrus's sarcastick post, I hope. The emailing back and forth. Not likely to come at pressent time, but also not entirely unlikely to come ever.
This migth not be the rigth place to address my main issue. How much are we casual players to suffer under the "We will not have cheating, abuse or any of the sort" war going on between the Admins and the "Cheaters". I see the valiant course in the endevour, but I also see the true victims, whilst I don't really seen the benefits, except the valiant course in it self (Lookup Crusade).
I don't like the game being overrun by bots or scammers or in general : Cheaters. But it stroke me with the addition of the random number on the login page that I was actually considering with I was willing to pay the price of a cheat free online game. The fact that I considered it meant more to me then if I play the game at all. Realizing this consideration, made me aware that I'm with SGW just about wher I myself draw the line.
Can we somehow stick to that question as of where would you draw the line and why?
By the way the thread is currently misplaced, it's no longer a game suggestion but a philosofical question, regarding larger issues then the mere SGW, so feel free to relocate the thread to a prober place. I for once am notified by email with a link if anything happens here.
