there are already a few posts about implementing random effects into the game and i would still love to see it ingame!!
it gives the game a new dimension, with lots of possibilities that are only limited by admins passion
just a few thoughts:
"effect" itself on stats: not more then 1-2% impact on existing stats
-"random": => all players get the same random event or more like random players are getting one of the available events? i would like the second option more. all players having the same effect limits the possibilites (like "moral bonus +1% att and def" negates the effect), while its fairer its wont be that "exciting".
-"duration" of such an effects: not more then a day i would suggest, else it will influence the game too much and some ppl might get upset
-"chances": all players should have the same chance getting the effect (also banned and abdoned accounts) but again, i suggest, not more then 10K chosen per week . (keeps the long term fun)
- "announcement": some of us might remember the "quest" ingame message, something like that has go to every affected user once the effect is active (no warning beforehand!)
-please, no effects like more MT/PPT/ per week
some more possible effects:
- moral bonus/loss for troops (+-1% att or def)
- MS durability in/decreased by flying through a nebular or something (+-1% shield loss per attack or defense in total lowers/rises by that)
- experimental drugs tested on MS/ fleet crewmans: -+1% attack effectivness
- diplomacy sucess/ failure: random # of war/peace declarations are being set back to neutral
- war effects: more raided units/ more killed units, more damage to weapons done
- ms engine/scanner effect: raising/lowering your chances of discovering a planet when exploring (tho not 100% but higher (2-3times of normal)
- armory explosion or production enhancement: new weapons for a short time cheaper (watch the selling price!) or existing weapons are getting destroyed or damaged
and more, as said you have plenty of possibilities here.

interesting ideas... but having just 1-2% would only benefit/hurt the biggest players...with up to 20%, all players would feel effects...

Like a deck of cards. Every week you pick one from the deck, and then you put the old one back (so you can't pick the same card twice in a row). Or did you mean more like discard the old card and pick one from the remainder of the deck, until it's empty? So you get every effect once before shuffling them again.

since the putting in the back of deck idea could let one have same bonus several times in a row, and the removal would let one know which bonuses would come within a short time we suggest a different version...
how about that one can never have the same bonus as one had in the last 5-10 times, except for the no bonus one...

lottery idea sounds good ... say 10 bil (or maybe like merc techs prices rise depending on total uu or something to help newbies get the effects too) to enter the weeks weather lottery (maybe like ascension only pops up at a certain point/time eg 1 day of every week it appears) and see what good/bad effect youll get otherwise dont pay for it and nothing happens all goes like normal. oh yeah and make it so theres like a 25% chance of getting nothing

mayb along with that idea u could buy them 4 $5 each week or sum thing like that, and 4 like $25 u could pick which 1 u want. and mayb after ur an LG u can pick which 1 u want but at a much higher cost mayb double that of the normal naq
if LG's could buy which 1 they want it might put them at an advantage but im just suggesting things

interesting idea, but being able to buy your bonus with RL money is not such a good idea, neither is the idea where LG+1 can choose their bonuses, seems like a way to make the strong people even stronger, and of course the ones willing to buy their bonuses every week. I prefer the idea that it is completely random, and lasts at most 3 days, so that people getting bad bonuses won't suffer too long, and people getting good bonuses won't get that much of an advantage. After all it is only a bonus.

i ment more like in the code have it so that you cant have the same thing twice in a row, so it would be random but if it picked the same thing twice you wold pick again,
just came up with a idea how this could work, it should something you can decide to do, do on one of the pages ( maybe the market or something) their be a buttom that takes you to a random effects page, their you click a button and a gate dials, and the first thing it lockes onto is the bonus/ ( oppisite to bonus, sorry mental blank) but it keeps a record of what you got last time and their should be a rule that if it lockes in the same spot as last time you have to click it again and the stargate trys to dial again ( it prolly would be alot of codeing to make the weel spin and prolly not so good for dial up people but i sounds good in my head and thats all that matters

i will add in here part of what i posted in another thread, how about making a random event that a group of mercs come to someone asking if they can be hired, and if the player says yes, they get a set number of mercs, random kinds. In that ay it is somewhat of a gamble, one could end up with lets say, 10,000 untrained mercs, but also no untrained ones and such, that can be both good and bad in one.
