if you chose a different one your relations with your chosen original race will be come a bit dodgy and they will refuse to trade with you as they believe you are untrust worthy...

They are having you on. Nothing untoward happens if you choose another ascended race after your initial choice. You are still going to be your initial race and that's that. Nothing else happens. I don't even know why they give you the choice after the first ascension.

Because that would require the system to check if an account exists on the ascended server for this main account already - which it does, but not when "deciding" to print the page that gives the option of race. In other words, it's a little bug that wasn't repaired because it's not doing any harm other than make people wonder.
