Admin & Mod Team

I would like to extend a hand for all the team that I work with for their work here on the forum.

I would also like to ask that everyone take some time to think about what these people do here.

These days there is alot of bad blood and general discontent with many of the people here on the forum.
Some blame in game problems like planets, alliances and the such for these issues while some point towards specific groups of players or player types.
These in game furies do often spill out here on the forum and that was why the Colosseum was created and yet there seems to be a increase in these mean spirited posts and actions taken here on the forum.

We work, sometimes in vain, to make sure that this forum is appropriate for any and all players of the game so that they may come here to discuss things about the game and learn about the game as a community.
But this is not how things are running.

To me it feels like a break down in communication between the community and the teams that work for the community and for ourselves.

Many of us just enjoy this game and wish to share that feeling with other players no matter what alliance they may be in or who else they call friend.

Are there times when a Mod or an Admin may make a mistake at a moment when they themselves are having a bad day?

Certainly, we are only human just like all of you and are swayed like many by our feelings and thoughts at the time.
We have all done stupid things at times in our lives and we will continue to do so until one of them kills us but that is beside the point.

Can we work together on something as a team and all agree that is was a good idea at first but still end up not agreeing in the end or even have one or two of us take things a bit too far?

Absolutely, as far as I know (as some of it happened while I was away for a while) most of the admin and mod team agreed with Nuto as to the changes in the market.
Many of you may remember my little melt down before I left last time.
That would be a prime example of what I am stating about many members of the forum team.
Any one of us is a human being and can say enough is enough and overreact or take things to far.

But, you must remember, that there are many that do come here on the forum with the sole idea in their mind of making trouble of us and therefore for you as well as we will have to work harder to make new rules to stop such people from doing such things.

We are not perfect and cannot see all.
Mods can only mod the section assigned to them but we can try to contact another mod in the event that they are needed.
I do not go to other sections that often but if anyone on this forum were to see something in need of attention then we need you to come to us and let us know so we can work to get it fixed.

You wish for us to work with you in making this forum a better place for all and we need you to help us in keeping it safe from people that wish to disrupt the flow of things.

Will we continue to butt heads from time to time as the team vs. the community?

You can beat on it.

Why?

Because through conflict understanding is reached. ;)

I have seen many threads in my time here directed towards many mods and admins meant to be demeaning and insulting by nature while skirting the rules.

I ask that if you cannot state your problem and point of view in a rational manner without insulting people then please take a few moments and chill before posting, you would be surprised how much respect you earn from those around you when you work to do this at times when you are very passionate about something.

I am sorry for such a long rant but really needed to type this up and put it out there as the way I feel about things at the moment.
Many may hate, many may like but I ask that all take something from this and post with at least some respect for all here in this community.

Thanks for reading,
Acronon

Very good words, with an even better idea. :)

I second this very sensible "rant".

I agree with everything he said. As a mod, I obviously know how hard it can be, and I do have people interrupt me while I'm raiding or doing whatever to redirect me to the forums, please, if you see me online (many have my msn, it's open to all), don't hesitate to do so. If I can't fix the problem I'll do my best to find someone who can.

Thank you for a wonderful post, Acronon.

I have taken some time to think about what the mod's acctualy do.....

They edit unsuitible posts/threads.
They delete extreemly unsuitable posts/threads.
They create rules.
They take abuse in PM's.
They basicly make the forum a place where minors can view with little flaming and insults.

What do all of the above involve?

Typing on a keyboard, reading text.

Is it hard? NO

Does it take up there time? YES.

Did they put there name forward to mod? YES

Do they gloryfy their job just a bit? YES

No disrespect ment, but i think you guys gloryfy yourselfs just a bit, and make out that your doing something really difficult when all you really do is tapp away on a keyboard.

Same goes for becoming the best player in SGW really.
Tap tap tap away and up up up you go. Into the tunnel. :)

It's a bit harder then that even, because being a mod or admin brings inherently along a whole load of flaming and hating and cursing and swearing.

Very bad for one's peace of mind. :?

Regards,

You get just as much flaming in the game with PM's, and if it effects you then you should look at why it effects you, and not why someone would send it.

I gotta say i respect what the mods do some of them work really hard but at the end of the day you was all falling over yourselves to fight for a mod position if you don like it or its too much then step down im sure there are dozens of ppl that would be willing and competent enough to do the job

Most programmers only "sitting and typping on a keyboard" for making money :)
And I dont think it is easy job.
And programmer deal only with machine by typping.

Both have responsibility for "typing best they can".

But things are always more difficult when typing is directed to people. And especially if you cares about this people.

The biggest diference between working for money and working for community for free is:
1. Working for money -
A. you work good you got money.
B. You work bad - you got less money.
C. You dont work - you got no money
It is not so hard to do that without emotions. It is not necessary for you to like your job. It is job. You make money and can use money for something what will enjoy you.

2. Working for community -
A. You work good - you got stupid insulting messages because you never please everyone.
B. You work bad - you got more stupid insulting messages.
C. You dont work - you got no more stupid insulting messages.
It is hard to spend time (and time is more valuable than money) with community and only rarelly got helpfull sincere message like "I respect you for time you spending to make this game/forum better."

It is the same, Slicky, as you said cutting with knife is easy.
Yes. It is easy. If you are gardener and need to cut branch.
No. It is hard. If you are doctor and needs to use medical knife to repair brain damage.

Responsibility for actions what directly affects people are allways bigger than responsibility what affects only things.

Everybody is different. Someone plays this game for profit, someone for fun, someone because of relationships, friends and respect of others as well. Everyone has right to play this game as he wants if dont break rules. And good MOD need to respect everyone equally. No matters if his point of view for playing this game it too much diferent.

And everybody who did it before and try to be good mod/admin/leader/general/ director understand than responsibility for his actions is really hard burden - if he cares about other people who can be affected by his actions.

Looks like my "average ratio of letters/ post" must be really high :)

Shortly then - I agree with Acronon and make a bow to his wise post.
